Providing knowledge for the nation through our world-leading research and education in health, medicine and psychology

About us

The ANU College of Health and Medicine provides knowledge for the nation, through our commitment to both science and service to the Australian people. Our Schools comprise of the School of Medicine and Psychology, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. And together, our community champions biomedicine, population health and the human condition. Befitting the Australian National University’s place among the world’s top universities, our academics produce research that pushes the frontiers of knowledge and confronts the most meaningful and complex issues. We solve problems through big picture and applied scientific research, to improve health outcomes for people around the world. Our bright and diverse students learn from these world-class researchers as we prepare the leaders who will make a difference and shape the future of health and healthcare in Australia and the region. Our partnerships are a part of our success and we work with Australia’s policy-makers, the health sector and provider organisations, and industry to improve health system performance. From its beginnings, ANU has been a university with a difference. In its more than 75 years, ANU has affected many people's lives by offering educational opportunities, conducting research and modelling public engagement in ways that have changed our understanding of the world. We are proud of our standing and achievements, and we have a long history with ground-breaking research and Nobel Laureates in the ionic mechanisms of synaptic transmission in the brain (Eccles, 1963), the revolutionary work in immunology (Zinkernagel & Doherty, 1996), and the therapeutic potential of penicillin (Florey, 1945).
