  • Applied Environment & Safety has invested in an electric vehicle as part of our carbon neutral goals. As part of our certified carbon neutral status through Climate Active, we have implemented an Emissions Reduction Strategy which includes targets for reducing our carbon emissions over the next seven years. This included the procurement of electric vehicles as primary company cars. We have now reached that goal. More broadly, as part of our Sustainability Action Plan, we will continue to seek and implement opportunities to reduce our carbon emissions and improve our business sustainability practices. Claire Taylor is the onsite environment advisor for these works being undertaken by Matthew Gardner and his team at ACS Australian Construction Services. Fauna spotter catchers are working with the clearing crew, and spotted a koala located on the outside of the clearing footprint.

  • We are providing environmental support on a transmission line construction project between Dalby and Kingaroy in Queensland. This area, much of which is farmland, is free from the invasive Fire Ant. Fire Ant's have the potential to cause more damage than all of Australia's major pests combined. To support the project in managing biosecurity risks, we are managing project biosecurity controls including washdowns, inspections and education. To prevent the risk of spreading Fire Ants from biosecurity zones in South East Queensland, all vehicles accessing the project area must be free of any material that Fire Ants can form nests in such as soil, mulch, compost and manure. Project workers have also been provided with training and tools to identify and report suspected fire ants to the project Environment Team. A number of reports have been raised by project workers but luckily the nests identified belong to native ants, such as the Southern Meat Ant and the Orange-tailed Sugar Ant. For more information on Fire Ant identification, reporting and treatment, visit https://lnkd.in/gQuwaDB9
