Biodiverse Environmental were engaged to conduct BioCondition surveys at the sites of two proposed drill locations, approximately 150km north of Roma. The surveys were conducted to assess whether the proposed works at each site would be compliant under the EPBC Act 1999. Ecological field surveys were conducted, and results showed that Site 1 contained remnant vegetation, while Site 2 contained predominantly non-remnant vegetation. Two survey plots were placed at each site to ensure features and vegetation communities representative of the entire sites were captured. Overall survey plot scores and site BioCondition scores were then calculated to compare the current condition of each site. The survey results were then assessed against Matters of Environmental Significance and environmentally sensitive areas were mapped to determine the suitability of each proposed drilling location. While each Site displayed characteristics of healthy ecosystems, Site 2’s average BioCondition score was calculated as more dysfunctional than Site 1’s score, due to having greater levels of disturbance and being more vulnerable to external influences, making it less able to return to a fully functional ecosystem when compared to Site 1. Based on the BioCondition survey results, it was recommended to the client that Site 2 was selected for the proposed drilling works, as the impact of works was expected to be less significant at this Site, due to it already being more vulnerable to external influences.

Biodiverse Environmental were engaged by Global Power Generation Australia to conduct a desktop assessment of a site planned for the installation of a large-scale solar farm within the Fraser Coast region. The findings of this assessment triggered the need for further surveys, including a targeted ecological survey for flora and fauna. During the targeted ecological survey, several habitat and potential breeding places suitable for microbat species were identified. Microbat species are considered colonial breeders, triggering the need for a High-Risk Species Management Program (SMP-HR). Biodiverse Environmental developed the SMP-HR and an associated Impact Management Plan (IMP) for the management of multiple microbat species. Following the recommendations of the SMP-HR and the IMP, a fauna spotter-catcher was required to be present for all vegetation clearing and dewatering works. In engaging Biodiverse Environmental to conduct the initial assessments, important ecological values were protected for the client. This not only fulfilled the client’s fauna management requirements, but also ensured that any potential impacts to the native fauna in the area were minimised.

In late 2022, Biodiverse Environmental were engaged by Sunshine Coast Council to install and monitor our species-specific, hardwood nest boxes within Baroon Pocket Environment Reserve, due to the low abundance of natural tree hollows present within the reserve. Regeneration works have since occurred within the reserve, increasing the quality of vegetation and habitat. The team have subsequently monitored the nest boxes to observe whether the increase in habitat quality has increased fauna species observed within the reserve. Several native species were observed utilising the nest boxes across the monitoring events, including various possum species, reptiles and native rodents. It is greatly rewarding to have been able to contribute to the project and to observe positive outcomes for the project, the reserve and the native wildlife within it. #biodiverseenvironmental #conservation #sunshinecoast #queensland #ecologicalservices #biodiversity #native #environment #nestbox #sunshinecoastcouncil

We have been busy updating our website over the past few months to better showcase who we are and what we do. The team recently took some time out together to participate in a professional photoshoot. Thank you Chris Peckham from Source Media - Video, Photography, Aerial Drone Services & Digital Training for the amazing photography. #websiteupdates #chrispeckham #sourcemedia #teamphotoshoot #biodiverseenvironmental #conservation #biodiversity

The team was recently tasked with translocating a large number of Grass Trees (Xanthorrhea johnsonii) to an environmental offset site on the Sunshine Coast, where they were to be transplanted and rehabilitated. To be able to contribute to the survival of so many individuals of this unique and slow-growing species was a highlight for the team. #biodiverseenvironmental #conservation #sunshinecoast #queensland #ecologicalservices #biodiversity #native #environment #bushregeneration

The team recently completed a six-month monitoring of nest boxes that were installed in Mellum Creek Environment Reserve, as part of a collaboration project between Biodiverse Environmental and Sunshine Coast Council. During the monitoring event, the team discovered that many of the nest boxes had been used by a variety of different native fauna, including Sugar Gliders (Petaurus breviceps), a Peron’s Tree Frog (Litoria peronii) and this Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula). It is a pleasure to be able to contribute to this offset project by monitoring our specially designed, hand-crafted, hardwood nest boxes that the team initially installed within the Reserve. #biodiverseenvironmental #conservation #sunshinecoast #queensland #ecologicalservices #biodiversity #native #environment #nestbox #sunshinecoastcouncil

Liam Pratt (Owner/Director at Biodiverse Environmental) and Justin Watson (Principal Ecologist/Director at Gondwana Ecology Group) recently met up to check on the progress of the rehabilitation offset site at Wallum Lane, Noosa Heads. It is fantastic to see the amount of growth achieved within the first 18 months and to see that the rehabilitation project is on track to achieving a positive outcome. The rehabilitation project was a collaborative effort, involving Biodiverse Environmental, Keyton and BlueCare. #biodiverseenvironmental #conservation #sunshinecoast #queensland #ecologicalservices #biodiversity #native #environment #bushregeneration #keyton #bluecare #gondwanaecologygroup
