AJC’s Residential & Mixed Use Director Brian Mariotti recently visited the Wangxing facade factory in Wuxi, China, to review the prototype of the folding façade for the One City Square project in Parramatta, designed for JQZ. This hands-on review followed extensive assessments of material samples, colour swatches, and shop drawings—highlighting the value of experiencing the full-scale façade in person. One City Square’s 42-storey residential tower features a striking glass façade, inspired by the natural meeting of waters at Parramatta Weir, where the fresh water of the Parramatta River converges with the salt waters of Sydney Harbour. The façade design reflects this transition, with smooth vertical glazing at the tower's peak representing the calm headwaters, while progressively angled panels towards the base evoke the dynamic movement of the harbour and ocean. In collaboration with Ausfacade, AJC has developed a high-performance, double-glazed prefabricated façade system, carefully tailored to meet the project's aesthetic and functional demands. The angled glass panels successfully achieve the intended visual effect—fragmenting reflections of ground and sky while creating a rhythmic, dynamic façade that enhances the tower’s architectural presence. We are delighted to see the sailing roofs of Lane Cove Sport and Recreation Centre taking shape! Nestled within the valley with views to the bushland around, it will be a remarkable place for the community to gather, play and connect. With eight multipurpose sports courts, six multipurpose rooms, a bistro and outdoor dining, golf pro shop and amenities this will be a key sporting and recreation precinct for the northern region. AJC collaborated with BEC and hosted 'Material Matters: Bridging Design & Supply' — bringing together architects and building product suppliers to bridge communication gaps and improve the specification process. Moderated by Sam Matheson (Built Environment Channel), the discussion explored how suppliers can better support architects, covering key topics such as BIM content, compliance requirements, sustainability credentials, and common frustrations with product marketing.
