ASIS is building its next generation of officers. Last week, Director-General Kerri Hartland spoke to students at the ANU National Security College about its secret overseas mission, the mythology surrounding the human intelligence profession, and the importance of separating reality from fiction.

I was pleased to provide the keynote address to the Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers (AIPIO) Conference last month. I spoke about the themes of accountability, capability development and people - our most important asset. I was also able to dispel a number of myths about the Australian Secret Intelligence Service in the process!
