Now that we’re in December, we're putting up our Christmas tree and sprucing it up with hi-vis flags! These safety flags are sewn by us at the Assembled Threads hub in Melbourne for our client Cacti Conserve, a business who aims to offer Australian made 100% recycled / plastic free / compostable packaging and site safety products. We asked Cacti Conserve founder, Jackson Ellis, why he has chosen Assembled Threads as their manufacturing partner. "Assembled Threads and Cacti Conserve share some fundamental values including strengthening Melbourne’s manufacturing capacity, working to enhance the capacity of the local recycled materials sectors, and supplying waste mitigating industry consumables. Working with Assembled Threads has allowed Cacti Conserve to magnify our impact by supporting training and employment for disadvantaged members on the community through the Social Enterprise model Assembled Threads has become renowned for. Assembled Threads have been instrumental in bringing many of our products to life and to market. The experienced team at Assembled Threads provide the technical knowhow allowing efficient and quality manufacturing of our textile safety products." A huge thank you to Cacti Conserve for joining us on this journey towards a circular future. If your company is looking to make sustainable choices with purpose, let’s connect!

Wow. What a night! Last night Assembled Threads attended the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards. Assembled Threads was beyond excited to be acknowledged as a finalist alongside esteemed industry leaders such as ADA (AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE APPAREL PTY LTD) , ABMT Textiles, and Godfrey Hirst Australia in the category of Leader in Textile, Clothing and Footwear Award. We extend huge congratulations to @ADA (AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE APPAREL PTY LTD) for receiving this well deserved accolade. But never in our wildest dreams would we have expected to take home the award for Manufacturer of the Year - Small Business. Thank you to Ed Browne Macpherson Kelley, for presenting our award. Thank you to Natalie Hutchins MP, Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions and Ethical Clothing Australia for all their support. It is exciting to see the local garment industry back on the radar, and for Assembled Threads to be able to showcase the opportunity the Victorian Government's Social Procurement Strategy could realise in creating purposeful employment for marginalised women. Thank you again to Icon construction for their early stage support of our enterprise, and supporting over 90000 minutes and counting of ethical purposeful garment manufacturing, and showing how seamless it is to embed social procurement into your supply chain. #MadeinVic Get your Victorian Made Recyled fibre Hi Vis Vests at Assembled Threads. #vicmanawards #manufacturing #victorianmanufacturing

Huge huge congratulations to Rebecca Smith and the Hobsons Bay Main project team at John Holland. Assembled Threads was thrilled to be approached in 2022, with the first of many deliveries of Australian Made vests to Rhiannon and the team down at the site at Spotswood. Well done on a well deserved win.
This is a big one… It was an absolute highlight as social procurement lead to be accept the Social Traders award last night on behalf of our John Holland Hobsons Bay Main project team. We were awarded the Social Traders “S in ESG Frontrunner 2024” award for Vic/Tas recognised for our work in creating a genuine impact in opportunities and pathways for employment including: 🌟Doubling our target spend on employment of priority job seekers and social enterprise procurement, 🌟Achieving gender parity in the project team, 🌟Creating a recruitment strategy that focuses on creating a gender and culturally diverse workplace, and 🌟Working to encourage young women into STEM careers through our school and community engagement. As the social procurement lead on this project, I am so incredibly proud of the work of our whole team to not only excel in our diversity and procurement targets but to have created a truly inclusive and unique team along the way. Thank you to Social Traders for the recognition and the work that you do. We are so honoured to be part of this community.

Congratulations Sustainability Victoria for the incredible support you are giving all businesses who are seeking to challenge existing procurement practices and embed recycled first as best practice.
Procurement is no longer just about cost-cutting and supply chain efficiency—it's now a pivotal force for sustainability. Through strategic procurement practices aligned with sustainability goals, organisations can drive positive change, fostering innovation and creating new markets. The Federal Government’s Environmentally Sustainable Procurement Policy, effective 1 July 2024, is set to stimulate industry investment in sustainable goods and services, starting with construction services. Sustainability Victoria is at the forefront of this movement, collaborating with councils to prioritise recycled materials. As Shannon Smyth, Manager Markets Acceleration states "by prioritising recycled materials, councils can reduce dependence on virgin resources, divert local waste, and support local circular economies." The recent Buy Recycled Northern Showcase highlights the transformative potential of circular procurement for our largest buyers: federal, state, and local governments. The Showcase demonstrated the leadership of councils like the City of Whittlesea, which used 300 tonnes of recycled concrete and glass in construction, producing zero construction waste to landfill. Such initiatives showcase how procurement can drive sustainable outcomes, making councils agile and adaptive to new opportunities. Let's continue to work together to expand what procurement can deliver in a circular, net-zero economy for Victoria. 🌏🔄 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gMdvz3uQ

Assembled Threads is proud to be part of this project. Each silt sock created delivers socially inclusive employment hours, whilst meeting social procurement spend targets. But most importantly it is bring huge environmental benefits to our communities. Congratulations Stratex and Jackson Ellis for the work you are doing to get these products out on sites.
Once destined for landfill - now protecting waterways! The #ACCIONAteam, as part of the Southern Program Alliance, is proud to unveil our latest innovation in sustainable construction: The 100% recycled 'Silt Sock'. This groundbreaking product transforms non-recyclable anti-gawk screen signage from level-crossing-removal projects into an essential drainage filter, diverting approximately 5.3km of banner mesh from landfill annually. But that's not all. This initiative goes beyond environmental benefits: - Creates employment opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse communities, especially women - Directs 50% of profits to local conservation efforts - Each Silt Sock diverts 12.15kg of waste from landfill and provides 0.5 hours of employment We're grateful to our partners Stratex, Assembled Threads, and Cacti Conserve for their crucial roles in bringing Australia's first recycled Silt Sock to life - and it's locally produced in Melbourne. At ACCIONA, we're committed to innovative solutions that benefit both the planet and our communities. The Recycled Silt Sock is a perfect example of how we're turning this waste into something wonderful. #SustainableInfrastructure #InvestInThePlanet #CircularEconomy #Innovation #Melbourne

Transforming business as usual into a force for good! ♻️ We can see the power of social procurement as businesses around Australia embrace sustainability and make a positive impact. Assembled Threads has recently delivered 200+ of our recycled Hi Vis vests to Sydney airport. In the last few weeks we have produced over 6500+ metres of eco bunting for Cacti Conserve which will head to projects across Victoria and Tasmania. (FIY the 6500m equates to: 52 kg of Ocean Bound recycled plastics being returned to use. 84.5kg of recycled plastics total consumed, or approx. 3380 plastic bottles.) In addition 500+ recycled silt socks are on the machines for Stratex NSW division, whilst Barpa Construction Services recycled Hi Vis Vests are just in from the printers before they will be QC'd and delivered to Darwin City. From eco bunting to recycled vests & upcycled gawk mesh, these projects are changing the game. Join the movement to put people and planet first! #SocialProcurement #Sustainability #MakeAnImpact
