ANZCA is one of the largest specialist medical colleges in Australia and New Zealand.
About us
We are the region's foremost authority on anaesthesia, pain medicine and perioperative medicine. We're responsible for training, assessing, and setting standards for all specialist anaesthetists and specialist pain medicine physicians wishing to practice in Australia and New Zealand. As a proudly bi-national college, we offer our training, research, and lifelong learning programs on both sides of the Tasman, and work closely with the governments, healthcare services, and communities in each country on a wide range of issues. We also play a significant role in advancing global health. Take a look at who we are, how we work, where we've come from, and where we're going on our website.

FPM Outreach clinics are not just culturally appropriate and support our rural and remote patients but are also cost effective and strengthen local communities thereby reducing pressure on tertiary services. Funding travel for 3 clinicians instead of 30 patients is not rocket science but unfortunately in reality funding of services like this is still rarely happening Faculty of Pain Medicine (ANZCA) Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists #ruralandremotepainmedicine
Specialist pain medicine physician Dr Hannah Bennett runs the persistent pain outreach clinic in Palm Island as joint clinical director of the North Queensland Persistent Pain Service. After piloting the outreach service in 2023 with a grant from ANZCA’s Health Equity Projects Fund, Dr Bennett is a regular visitor to Palm Island with the clinic which not only treats patients, but also provides culturally safe and appropriate pain education five times a year. She and a Townsville based allied health team work on site at the Palm Island Community Company (PICC) Bwgcolman Healing Service with Aboriginal Health Workers employed by PICC.
