  • Big few weeks for our General Manager International Katerina Aleksoska who is in Japan and Korea.   Kat will speak at the Australian and New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan Hydrogen Series IV event that kicks off tomorrow. This event will delve into the current state of Australia's hydrogen supply chain, Japan's investment in hydrogen and derivatives supply chains, and the challenges and opportunities ahead for the global hydrogen market. With the push towards net zero targets, the event will address key topics like supply chain disruptions and the role of policymakers in supporting the hydrogen value chain. This event is on the eve of the Tokyo Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Expo (19-21 February), which takes place during GX Week. Kat is looking forward to connecting with any members who may also be attending the expo - reach out to the AHC or Kat directly. Kat will also take part in a panel hosted by Deloitte Japan to discuss the upcoming release of the updated 7th Energy Plan focusing on the role of hydrogen and derivatives across the Asia Pacific region. She will then travel to Korea to present at a Senior Officer Meeting of APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, continuing important conversations about the future of hydrogen and the growing opportunities for international cooperation. Kat and the AHC are grateful for the opportunity to address this important meeting at such a critical juncture for the industry amid broader geopolitical challenges.   Kat looks forward to hosting AHC Member Debriefs after these international visits at a members-only briefing session on 4 March - if you haven't registered, there's still time. Stay tuned for more updates!   #H2Au

  • The Australian Hydrogen Council welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Australian Government , advancing our shared commitment to decarbonise the maritime sector.   This MoU builds on the strong trade partnership between our two nations and sets the stage for future decarbonised supply chains. By establishing green shipping corridors, Australia can enable regional planning, enhance experience and credibility, and support the development of a skilled workforce. Additionally, it can promote the sharing of technologies, strengthen national economic diversification, and help lower the cost of alternative fuels.   The feasibility study, set to begin in the first half of this year, will explore green shipping routes between key ports, taking us a step closer to a carbon-neutral maritime future. These partnerships are crucial to addressing the decarbonisation challenge in shipping and positioning Australia as a key fuel producer and bunkering hub.   We look forward to seeing how this exciting collaboration progresses in the coming months!   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gNvSJ37w   #H2Au

  • JUST IN 👏🏼 Landmark moment this evening with the Senate passing the Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credits and Other Measures) Bill 2024! This now paves the way for the Australian Government to create a hydrogen production tax incentive worth $2 per kilogram of renewable hydrogen produced between 2027-2028 and 2039-2040 for up to ten years per project. Huge effort to get this passed! Read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/g72-YHBx #h2au

  • We’re in Canberra this week - plenty happening including debate in the Senate on The Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credits and Other Measures) Bill 2024.   This is a really important bill to pass and while we await the outcome, we are focusing on the future needs of the clean and green hydrogen industry.   The new National Hydrogen Strategy unveiled last year set clear priorities and will require the Australian Government to continue taking bold steps to deliver on these.   Our recent pre-budget submission to the Australian Government, outlines the support needed to build the infrastructure and markets for hydrogen.    We are calling on the Government to prioritise: ▪️ Demand-side policies: incentives like tax credits for green metals, public procurement of green metals, and a mandate for low-carbon ammonia in mining. ▪️ Support for early adopters: direct government support packages for industries decarbonising with hydrogen, especially those that can't access other forms of support. ▪️ Key infrastructure investments: funding for hydrogen bunkering options for shipping and refuelling for heavy transport - laying the groundwork for the future of road transport and shipping. Ideally, funding provided could be layered with other funding, such as for hubs, Hydrogen Headstart, and likely future HPTI recipients.   Read our full submission here: https://lnkd.in/gRvCJMzQ   #H2Au

  • The Australian Hydrogen Council was proud to represent our members at a public hearing yesterday with the Senate Standing Committee on Economics for its inquiry into the Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credits and Other Measures) Bill 2024. AHC CEO Fiona Simon reinforced the need to support the urgent passage of this critical legislation that would establish a hydrogen production tax incentive (HPTI) in Australia. “The HPTI signals to Australian investors and the rest of the world that Australia is serious in attracting project investment, and the technology, capability and workforce opportunities that come with it." The next step is for the Committee to provide its report on 30 January 2025.
