About us

AJA is a membership-based community organisation guided by authentic Torah values, as well as centre-right Australian values. By Torah values, we mean a public policy outlook that is informed by the principles of traditional Halachic beliefs. This does not translate into any sort of requirement on the personal lives of our members. We welcome members at all levels of Judaic observance, who share our devotion to Am Yisrael (the Jewish nation) and Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel). By centre-right Australian values, we mean advocacy for public policies that advance the cause of individual liberty, economic freedom, limited government, a strong national defence, and the primacy of Australian law. Support for Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people is an indispensable pillar of our worldview. We welcome members who support our values. • AJA asked to comment on Waverley Council matters AJA was asked to comment on several other stories, in the last couple of weeks. "It is a sad indictment on our society that this level of security is needed to protect the Jewish community in 2024. Waverley Council and its Mayor Will Nemesh have been leading the way among local governments in this country in fighting antisemitism. Increased security measures such as additional cameras will help to keep residents safe. We hope these measures are adequate to deter some of the ugly antisemitic attacks we have seen but we really need to see leadership from the federal government. The responsibility to preserve social cohesion in this country should not be falling on the shoulders of local government." AJA CEO Robert Gregory

  • DEFENDING CHRISTIANITY Anyone notice how when we approach 25 December, Christianity is more and more deleted from public expression and even comes under attack? So when it was observed that a local council had put up many 100s of Christmas banners, NONE actually named Christmas. It seems the word has been ignored. Although there are many Jews in the Woollahra area, it is majority Christian among identified religions. We are not offended by open celebration of Christian festivals, we are offended by the censorship or disruption. So we decided to speak out in support of our Christian friends.

  • FRONT PAGE COVERAGE AJA speaks to the West Australian newspaper after Jewish tourists accosted by Muslim man in Perth An American tourist has been subjected to vile anti-Semitic abuse and called a “child killer” in broad daylight at Kings Park. Footage posted on social media shows a man confronting the tourist, who is wearing a Star of David necklace, saying: “Do you support your genocide? What’s wrong? “Youse are gronks, that’s what youse are, youse are genocide . . . the children killer.” The woman, visiting Perth from New York, says she was “attacked” by the man, who was wearing traditional Muslim dress, and his companion, a woman in a niqab. “These people just attacked me in Perth because they saw my Magen David (Star of David necklace),” the woman said. The video footage, posted by the Australian Jewish Association to X on Thursday, shows the woman chanting a Jewish solidarity anthem after the incident. The alleged abuser and the woman wearing the niqab, who filmed the incident on Thursday, are believed to be tourists from Sydney. The Jewish woman later took to social media to slam Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his government’s failure to stop the rising tide of anti-Semitism in Australia. “It is disgusting that Jewish tourists get accosted and almost assaulted simply for being tourists in a country that has no interest in protecting its Jewish citizens or Jewish tourists,” she said on Instagram. “Albanese, you are the Prime Minister of Australia, a beautiful country that you are making ugly. You are not helping the situation — extra patrol cars to protect Jews is not the answer. “You stop the virulent anti-Semites, you don’t pretend to give us extra security. My answer to all the anti-Semites and Islamic terrorist sympathisers in Australia is I don’t change who I am — I wear it louder and prouder. The Australian Jewish Association called the video: “Jewish couple in Perth have abuse shouted at them by Muslim man”. Association chief executive Robert Gregory described the Perth attack as “brazen”. “It sends a very worrying message,” he told The West Australian. “Jewish people are scared of what’s happening, they’re scared that the conflicts from overseas are now being brought to the streets of Australia. “We know across Australia, synagogues have been targeted, Jewish schools have been targeted, and now Jewish people are being targeted in the streets. “It’s very brazen to target people in the middle of a park in the middle of the day; it shows that the people doing these types of things are getting more aggressive and they’re getting more brazen and they don’t fear the consequences.”
