How far is Australia from having #hydrogen-powered trains? Perhaps closer than we think! It's happening already in #Germany, and hydrogen is just one of the five base #cleanenergy fuels that #Australia has in abundance. Thanks to Australian Renewables Academy Director, Brett Singh, for posting this article from our German friends, who are leading the way with hydrogen-powered #trains—an innovation that can radically reduce emissions while still delivering strong rail services. Australia relies heavily on diesel, particularly in our remote #regions, but this technology offers a glimpse into a cleaner, quieter and more sustainable future for the industry. The key will be developing the right infrastructure and policy support to make hydrogen viable across vast distances. It’s a challenge worth embracing for our passengers, communities and the environment. Check out the attached article to learn more about Germany’s bold move into hydrogen rail technology. #HydrogenTrains #SustainableRail #DecarboniseRail #RailInnovation https://lnkd.in/g3E5xXP8 Brett Singh Anthony Clucas PCC Bernadette O'Connor Rachael Newton (MRCSA) Scott McArdle Lorenzzo De Virgilio
"These trains will save 1.1 million liters of diesel fuel per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 3,000 tons. Locally produced hydrogen will be used in the trains’ fuel cells, and water vapor will be the only emitted by-product. In addition, recovered braking energy will be used to further increase the trains’ energy efficiency." https://lnkd.in/gUrhiC_Y #liquidhydrogen #rail #news
