Last week we announced 19 renewable energy projects that will add 6.4 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy to the National Electricity Market (NEM) ⚡ The projects were chosen as part of the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tender 1 and are located across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Queensland. Beyond delivering renewable energy, the successful projects will deliver broad economic and social benefits, including: 👨👩👧👦 $660 million for community development initiatives 🤝 $280 million for First Nations benefits 📈 over $14 billion invested in local suppliers and businesses, driving regional growth 👷♀️ $60 million allocated to local employment opportunities 📖 new jobs and training programs, including apprenticeships and renewable energy education initiatives. Aberdeen in Scotland is set to become a centre for clean energy innovation. A £1.6 million investment in a Centre of Excellence for training offshore wind farm workers will create new job opportunities at the Altens Industrial Estate as early as next year. The initiative, led by Scotland's Sarens PSG , aligns with the UK Government's push towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and highlights the city's drive towards the renewable energy transition. The decision to establish the Centre of Excellence was reinforced by the confirmation that Great British Energy, the UK Government's newly formed public clean energy company, will also be headquartered in Aberdeen. The £1.6 million centre is said to expect to deliver several key benefits: . With a thriving agricultural sector, rich mineral deposits, and a deep history of energy generation and innovation, Southern Queensland is a region with huge potential and significance when it comes to our renewable energy transition. That’s why we’ve established the Southern Queensland Renewable Energy Zones: to attract investment, develop renewable assets, and ultimately realise this potential for the benefit of regional communities and industries. Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) help coordinate planning and development of clean energy infrastructure, working to connect and integrate assets such as wind and solar projects across the region. They consider factors such as natural resource availability, existing grid infrastructure, and environmental, community, and economic implications. Currently, there are 12 locations across Queensland that have been identified as potential locations for REZs, five of which are in Southern Queensland: Western Downs, Southern Downs, Woolooga, Darling Downs, and Tarong. When completed, the Southern Queensland REZs are expected to generate up to 12,200MW of renewable energy. This will ultimately put downward pressure on energy prices, protect and create jobs, opportunities, and career pathways for locals, and make for a more efficient, reliable, and robust grid. Amy Quinn joined RS two years ago as our Renewable Energy Commercial Manager. We caught up with her this week to find out more about her role and experience in the business so far. Q1.Hi Amy, what does a typical day look like for you in your role? Amy: "I am responsible for delivering commercial solutions to the Renewable Energy sector. This aligns closely with our ESG strategy, supporting the growth of green industries. No two days are the same, which is something I love about my role. I might attend industry events to learn about new trends and opportunites in the global offshore wind market, meet with new customers to understand their challenges, or collaborate with my colleagues to deliver project outcomes tailored to client requirements." Q2. What is your favourite thing about working at RS? Amy: "RS is one team, with a customer first approach. Working in an environment where everyone is committed to delivering results and contributing to the success of the team can definitely make it an exciting and rewarding place to be." Q3. Describe one of your best work memories? Amy: "I was invited by a customer to tour onboard a new service operation vessel (SOV) which will be operational at the world’s largest offshore wind farm. Walking through the vessel and seeing where the technicians live, eat, and work while listening to their passionate stories was unforgettable. Offshore Wind presents enormous opportunities for thousands of Australian businesses Over the weekend, our Federal Government approved the fourth offshore wind zone off the Illawarra coast, albeit with a reduced size to respond to community concerns. The amended zone will now see the turbines positioned 20 kilometres from the coast. It followed those already declared off the Hunter region in NSW, Gippsland in Victoria and the Southern Ocean near Portland, also in Victoria. The scale is difficult to comprehend footprint of the latest zone will be1,022 kilometres. These are mega projects. New vision for UK seabed as The Crown Estate publishes bold approach to drive energy transition and nature recovery An ambitious vision for how the UK’s seabed can continue to support the accelerated delivery of nature recovery and the transition to clean energy has been set out by The Crown Estate, which manages the seabed around England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Amid increasing demand on the seabed from sectors critical to the UK economy, The Crown Estate has been working with stakeholders to develop initial plans for a ground-breaking Marine Delivery Routemap. The development of a Routemap was one of the key recommendations published in last year’s independent report from Electricity Networks Commissioner Nick Winser. Gus Jaspert, Managing Director, Marine at The Crown Estate, said: “Our seabed has the potential to re-power and regenerate the UK – to a flourishing marine environment, a green energy transition and create jobs and opportunities across the country. With increasing demands and pressures offshore, we need a forward plan to release the true potential of our seas. Our plans for a Marine Delivery Routemap mark an important step towards a more coordinated, long-term approach to managing the increasing demands off our coast in partnership with a range of industries and stakeholders. “In addition, our evolving approach to offshore wind development is designed to help remove some of the barriers to deployment of important new renewable energy and provide more certainty to investors. Rhode Island’s offshore wind leader Ørsted announced higher education grant commitments totaling $5.5 million as part of its proposed Starboard Wind project, including a proposed $2 million to the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). If Starboard Wind is selected to move forward, Ørsted will provide grants to CCRI, University of Rhode Island, and Roger Williams University. Ørsted’s proposed 1,184-megawatt (MW) Starboard Wind project would deliver clean and reliable offshore wind energy at stable and affordable pricing for Rhode Island homeowners and businesses for decades. If selected, Starboard Wind would result in more than $1.1 billion of direct, private investment and expenditure in Rhode Island, which would come on top of Ørsted’s existing investments and commitments in the state.
