It was great to have the opportunity to present some recent - and not so recent - work today to the Australian BioCommons Genomics Community meeting. #BioHackathon Just finished an intense few days of collaboration with Team #CoDex and Team #DataDingos at the Aussie outpost of ELIXIR's #BioHackEU24, and wow, what an amazing experience! A big thank you to the team at Australian BioCommons and ELIXIR for bringing everyone together and making it happen. Very grateful for the chance as a student, to meet and work with established bioinformaticians, life scientists, and software engineers from all around Australia. I was fortunate to work across two groups with awesome project scopes, Project 11: Galaxy CoDex and Project 8: Data Model Converter. Galaxy CoDex focused on ensuring the future sustainability of a well-established #opensource bioinformatics data analysis platform, helping users find the right tools to analyse their data and improve their workflows. I learnt so much about the Galaxy Project platform and the importance of metadata and tool annotation best practices. In Data Model Converter, our team created a web application to convert between two clinical data models (FHIR and OMOP), becoming a valuable tool for transferring patient data or supporting research across hospitals. I was impressed with how quickly I onboarded this project, as it was a practical application of this year's studies. I rapidly adapted my knowledge from Python classes in my internship and database systems and information modelling from university to understand the project scope and test the converter's robustness. Grateful for this chance to learn and collaborate, and am excited to see where these projects lead.
