Congratulations to Newcastle Herald reporter Matthew Kelly on winning the Community and Regional Affairs category at this year's prestigious Walkley Awards. Now in it's 69th year, The Walkley Awards celebrate excellence in Australian journalism. Matthew won for his powerful series of stories that helped reunite a homeless man with his family after 30 years of living on the streets of Newcastle. It is a brilliant example of the power of regional journalism to bring about real change.
