🚜 Global Farmer Insights 2024 just dropped last week, and it couldn’t have come at a better time! While leading an internal project at Syngenta focused on market trends and pest segmentation, I treat this report as a true magic✨ moment for aligning strategy with real-world data. Here are my top 10 takeaways: 1. Extreme Weather Concerns: Extreme weather is the second biggest concern globally, rising by six percentage points since 2022. In Europe and Latin America, it’s the top concern, driven by events like El Niño in 2023, which caused droughts, floods, and temperature changes. 2. Farmers’ Spending and Land Expansion: Farmers who see extreme weather as a major risk spend 30% more on agricultural purchases and are 50% more likely to plan land expansions in the next two years, possibly due to preparations for changing climate conditions and increased spending on insurance. 3. Profit Opportunities for Farmers: Despite challenges, farmers see opportunities for profit, citing higher yields, better crop prices, and lower input costs as their top three avenues for increasing profits in the next two years. They plan to focus on new products and technology to capture these opportunities. 4. Regional Differences in Profit Outlook: Farmers in India and Latin America are more optimistic about future profits compared to those in Europe and North America. 5. Adoption of Biocontrols and Bionutrients: Farmers use bionutrients for yield and soil health, while biocontrols are adopted for lower pest management costs and better efficacy. Brazil leads in using these products. 6. Investment in Biological Products: About 90% of farmers using biologicals plan to maintain or increase spending on bio-based products, even if fertilizer and crop protection prices change, showing that biologicals complement traditional farming methods rather than replace them. 7. Adoption of Agtech: Farmers globally are adopting technologies that improve operations, with the U.S. leading in areas like digital agronomy and precision agriculture. Larger farms are more likely to adopt agtech due to the need for scale to see a return on investment. 8. Preference for In-person Purchases: Farmers still prefer in-person interactions over e-commerce for making purchases, especially for first-time transactions, even with the growth of digital tools. 9. Need for Clear ROI Communication: Farmers look for products with high ROI but report a lack of clear data and value propositions from providers. There’s a significant opportunity for suppliers to communicate the benefits of new products more effectively. 10. Importance of Channel Partners: Distributors continue to play a key role in influencing farmers’ decisions, helping to introduce new products, educate growers, and provide digital tools, maintaining their importance in the agricultural ecosystem. https://lnkd.in/e_7XnQvW #Agriculture #Sustainability #Syngenta

Short-duration crops demand significant effort and involve higher risks for farmers. This topic was discussed in detail by Melon Expert Rohit Borgave and Economist Shiwaji Walke. They highlighted how these crops require precise planning, intensive labor, and constant monitoring. Additionally, short growth cycles leave little room for error, and sudden market fluctuations or weather changes can lead to losses. Despite the challenges, they agreed that these crops could yield quick returns if managed well. Both emphasized the need for better farmer education, advanced technology, and supportive policies to reduce risks and make short-duration farming more sustainable. https://lnkd.in/gUvep7-p Confidence has returned to Australia’s farming sector following a mid-year dip in sentiment, according to the latest Rabobank Rural Confidence Survey. The quarter three analysis found sentiment among the country’s agricultural producers had rallied heading into spring, with the drivers including more favourable livestock markets and beneficial rain in some cropping areas. However, farm sector confidence remained just shy of net ‘positive’ levels – with still slightly more farmers holding a pessimistic outlook than those expecting a better year ahead. Farmers had begun the year with a surge in optimism, but sentiment had fallen by mid-year due to the worryingly late – and in some cases no – ‘autumn break’ for winter cropping regions, especially in Western Australia and South Australia. However, beneficial rainfall in the west and along the eastern seaboard put the brakes on sliding seasonal confidence this quarter. And improved prices for sheep and beef producers also supported optimism about the agricultural economy ahead. Australian Government AGRIVI Smart Apply®, Inc.
