Dr Maya Tanham, consultant psychiatrist has joined our Avive Brisbane team and is now accepting inpatient admissions at Avive Clinic Brisbane, and outpatient referrals at our onsite consulting suites, Avive Specialist Suites Brisbane. Dr Tanham specialises in autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, genetic disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, depression, psychosis, general adult psychiatry, young adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, women’s mental health. She says, "A good biological understanding of modern pharmacotherapy, including our genetic risks or pre-existing medical complications and the overlap with psychiatric disorders has long captivated me. I am also fascinated with the interconnection of the mind and body, and the impact of our thoughts on our health. Blending modern science with an understanding of the impact of connectedness with others, sleep, exercise, diet and how this influences the quality of our life is important. Supporting a person’s unique journey through recovery by listening to their story, whilst bringing a modern approach to medicine, no matter their age, is my priority." The significance of mindset and impact of mental health on our physical health is well recognised. Avive is a new private mental health hospital that is clinician led offering inpatient and outpatient programs, incorporating a holistic approach to mental health. One of AMA Queensland’s advocacy priorities is mental health. I had the opportunity to share how AMA Queensland is involved with governance groups to insure that the $1.6 billion committed by the government under the Better Care Together plan guides mental health initiatives over the next 5 years. This facility incorporates circadian lighting for improved sleep, yoga and mindfulness practices to improve self awareness and exercise physiology which they call emotions and movement to name a few. They blend traditional psychiatric practices with other modalities to treat mental health disorders with the goal of wellness of the entire being! Although I was there as VP of AMAQ, as a yoga instructor I loved exploring and learning how they are using breath work and yogic practices with patients. This was right up my ally🧘🏽♀️Nice to speak with medical professionals who understand that yoga is not only a physical practice and is often practiced off of a mat. We're pleased to welcome consultant psychiatrist, Dr Tahrun Sehgal, now accepting inpatient admissions at Avive Clinic Brisbane. He is also accepting outpatient referrals at our onsite consulting suites, Avive Specialist Suites Brisbane from September 2024. Dr Sehgal specialises in general adult psychiatry, major depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, ADHD, medico-legal and PTSD. Tarun says, "Over the last couple of decades of treating mental health conditions, I have learned mental health treatments work best when tailored to individuals. I aim to establish trust with my patients, respect their opinions and provide my impartial, independent professional opinion. I strongly believe in preventing mental health conditions, and working on a recovery-oriented approach by empowering my patients in their journey of recovery.
