Beyond her legal expertise, Maddison is a dedicated advocate for equality and has extensive experience representing clients before the Fair Work Commission, federal courts, and state discrimination tribunals. We are honored to have Maddison join us to share her insights on issues of equality in the workplace, as well as her unique perspective on challenges affecting the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in schools. Following our recent discussion on Gender Equity, in Part 2 we’re continuing the topic of gender but also expanding into other forms of equity/inequity in schools. Congratulations Southport Chamber of Commerce in bringing business leaders together this morning to discuss the role and impact of AI. Whilst optimistic, the session highlighted some of the key dilemmas facing businesses in this space. We know that AI is not hype but is a new way of doing business which has to be embraced by organisations seeking to remain competitive. On the other hand, the AI landscape is still evolving - new tools are emerging on a weekly basis, many programs remain underwhelming and proprietary business data is difficult to fit into off the shelf solutions. The learning is that businesses will need to be more patient and dedicate more resources if they are going to get all the promised benefits of AI.

Thank you BOP Industries for featuring our Barcley Consulting research as you prepare for your upcoming The Future Of Education Summit in South-East Queensland on 25-26 July. At Barcley we care about gender equality, and as strategic-thinking problem solvers, we care about systemic social impact on challenges like gender-based violence, coercive control, and the gender-pay-gap, all underpinned by sexism and gender discrimination. Curious about how the efforts to address inequity in the workplace align with how schools prioritise gender equity, we undertook this explorative research analysis. Because we are based on the Gold Coast, we decided to focus on local schools as our pilot effort, shining a light on this issue for our local community. With much research pointing at early childhood as a root-cause contributor to gender inequality, we believe schools have a critical role to play in helping to shape an equitable society. Some schools are grabbing this opportunity with both hands, and doing everything they can to enable equity and inclusion, while some schools seem to be resisting progress, holding on to outdated gender stereotypes that perpetuate inequity.
