  • Thanks to DCM Institute and James Wiltshire for paving the way for Ben to speak at last year’s Villages Conference on the topics of Community Engagement, Inclusion, and Partnerships. That opportunity has continued to foster meaningful connections, leading to last week's visit from members of the Lutheran Church of Australia, including the team from Lutheran Homes Barossa. During the visit, we shared how Barossa Village is developing truly collaborative and inclusive communities. Bec Normington spoke about our resident-first approach and how we actively create ‘more good days’—what this means in practice and how it can be replicated across the sector. Ben Hall explored the strategic nature of partnerships, how they’re formed, and the tangible benefits they bring—not just for residents but for the sector as a whole. By working together, we expand opportunities for residents while alleviating resource pressures, ensuring greater impact across the board. Walking through our projects, residents welcomed us into their homes, allowing us to showcase how collaboration and client-centred care drive everything we do. A key highlight was the incredible outcomes made possible through our collaboration with The Dementia Centre and Daniel Jameson, shaping our house development together with ageing-in-place principles. These conversations reaffirm the power of working together to create stronger, more connected communities. A huge thank you to everyone involved—we’re excited to continue growing these partnerships! • Last week, our Wellbeing Team introduced the Men’s Group to the incredible world of Virtual Reality (VR)! Everyone took turns immersing themselves in the VR experience while the rest of the group watched the action unfold on the screen. The men explored a range of classic and luxury cars, taking joyrides through stunning virtual landscapes. And for the cheekier ones? They couldn’t resist picking the most expensive cars on the list—just to see how much damage they could rack up! The room was filled with laughter as they swapped stories, shared reactions, and cheered each other on. Beyond the fun, VR offers immense wellbeing benefits for our residents. It provides an opportunity to relive cherished memories, stimulate the mind, and experience a sense of freedom—whether it’s driving a dream car, travelling to new destinations, or simply sharing a laugh with mates. The social connection, mental stimulation, and pure joy that VR brings are what make experiences like this so valuable in aged care! #agedcare #VR #techinnovation #wellbeing #mensgroup #health

  • We’ve created more than just a place to live—we’ve built a true community where our residents shape their spaces, deepen their sense of belonging, and simply love their homes. Our residency isn’t a medical facility; it’s a vibrant neighbourhood filled with warmth, connection, and personal touches that make it uniquely special. From our café’s hand-painted tables to resident-created artwork on our walls and outdoor spaces co-designed with our community, every corner tells a story of creativity and care. So next time you visit, know that you’re stepping into their home—a place filled with laughter, love, and open arms. And we’re so happy to have you here! #moregooddays #belonging #agedcare #community #care #development

  • This Valentine's Day, we gathered not just to celebrate love but to honour the lifelong stories that shaped it. Our residents came together, sharing their wedding albums, treasured keepsakes, heartfelt vows, and the elegant attire that once graced their special day. In the warmth of these moments, laughter echoed through our community—playful recollections of wedding day jitters, unexpected surprises, and the love that has carried through the years. For some, it was a time to reflect on the deep bonds they have cherished, while for others, it was a gentle remembrance of loved ones no longer with us, yet forever held in our hearts. Among these beautiful memories, our Memory Support Unit (MSU) residents added their own touch, crafting and sharing in their unique way. Love, after all, is not just remembered—it is felt in smiles, stories, and the quiet, knowing glances between friends who understand the depth of a life well lived. It has been a truly special week—one that will stay with us long after the last photo is tucked away. #love #agedcare #memories #wedding #dementiacare #wellbeing

  • How can technology transform the aged care experience? We’re seeing firsthand the incredible impact of interactive technology in dementia and residential care. With our upgraded Tovertafel system—now featuring 25 interactive games—residents are experiencing more movement, cognitive stimulation, and social connection than ever before. This advanced technology projects interactive light games onto tables and floors, offering residents opportunities to participate in activities such as word puzzles, soccer, bubble popping, and music-making. Designed with adaptability in mind, the Tovertafel accommodates varying abilities with five difficulty levels, adjustable screen sizes, and prop integration, ensuring an inclusive experience for all. Keith, Theo, and Rosemary couldn't wait to get involved, and their competitive spirits lit up the room during a recent session with our Wellbeing Team members Kylie, Michele, and Ben. Beyond entertainment, the Tovertafel has demonstrated significant benefits in aged care settings, including improved mobility, reduced agitation, increased social engagement, and enhanced emotional wellbeing. By integrating interactive tools like this into daily routines, we are seeing stronger connections between residents, families, and caregivers, fostering a sense of purpose and joy. • Today, our residents were immersed in the excitement of Stage 2 of the Tour Down Under as the thrill of world-class cycling raced right to our doorstep. We believe community inclusion and advocacy for older adults are non-negotiables. This event was a perfect opportunity to put those beliefs into action, ensuring our residents weren’t just spectators but active participants in one of South Australia’s most iconic sporting events. With a dedicated VIP viewing area, we turned inclusion into an unforgettable experience. Residents enjoyed prime seats, the buzz of the crowd, and the adrenaline of the riders speeding past, fully immersed in the day's magic. These moments highlight how older generations can remain visible, valued, and actively connected to the community around them. The Barossa Region is renowned for its world-class wine and food and events that showcase its vibrant culture and community spirit. Tourism in the region brings energy, connection, and incredible opportunities to engage with people of all ages. The Tour Down Under is a shining example of how South Australia leads the way in creating dynamic experiences that bring locals and visitors together. We’re proud to support this vision, ensuring our residents have a place at the table—whether it’s a community event, milestone, or celebration. #barossavillage #inclusion #tourdownunder #advocacyforageing #agedcare South Australian Tourism Commission Regional Development Australia Barossa Gawler Light Adelaide Plains

Residents joined forces in the kitchen to create delicious Christmas puddings, filled with love and care. With ingredients generously provided by The Louise - Baillie Lodge, and support from Chef Joel and team, Maggie and members of the Maggie Beer Foundation were delighted to lend a helping hand. These beautifully wrapped puddings brought more than festive flavours—they created moments of joy, connection, and pride for everyone involved. • Advancing Community-Integrated Aged Care Through Partnerships and Engagement At the core of our work is a commitment to fostering partnerships that reflect our values and bring them to life in meaningful ways. Our community workshops are a testament to this ethos, transforming vision into action while delivering holistic, person-centred outcomes. Hosted monthly at our Joy Rice Centre, these workshops serve as a dynamic platform to achieve multiple objectives. By activating an underutilised space, we are creating opportunities for the wider community to engage with our organisation and fostering connections between local businesses, artists, and residents. These workshops invite new faces into spaces our residents hold dear, instilling a sense of pride and personal value in sharing their environment. They provide a unique avenue for creative collaboration and growth—uniting those in our care with broader networks while amplifying our advocacy for a thriving, inclusive community. Last year, we welcomed Bunnings, Sam Koerner, local mosaic artists, Japanese cultural pieces, Commonwealth Bank, paint pouring, and more, all with great success. This year, we launch Workshops with Bec Normington Harper’s Happiness. Led by a talented local jewellery artist, this session enables participants to explore the art of handcrafting wearable creations. Residents and community members alike can engage in a hands-on, creative process, strengthening social bonds, nurturing self-expression, and celebrating the joy of shared learning. These initiatives have been significant, building bridges between generations, supporting local talent, and demonstrating the community-integrated aged care model. #communityengagement #personcentredcare #agedcare #inclusivecommunities #partnerships Ben Hall
