Politics is a tough business and Simon Birmingham has been at the sharp end for almost 18 years. As a senator, minister and leader in the Senate, Birmo has always been a pleasure to work with. Simon, and his fabulous team led by Rachael Thompson, should be enormously proud of everything they have achieved over the journey. The leadership of the Coalition in the Senate will now pass to an all female team of Michaelia Cash, Anne Ruston and Bridget McKenzie - an outstanding team to take to the upcoming election. Congratulations on an outstanding political career to Simon Birmingham and all the best for the future. https://lnkd.in/geFXnwAd

Great to host our clients at the National Press Club of Australia housing debate. Liberal Party of Australia shadow minister Michael Sukkar vs. the Greens' Max Chandler-Mather was always likely to be fiery clash of ideas and it didn't disappoint. Housing is going to be one of the key issues at the next election and Michael Sukkar laid out the Liberal Party of Australia & National Party of Australia (The Nationals) plan to fix Labor's housing crisis and to support more Australians to own their own home.

It was great to attend the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) breakfast with Leader of the Opposition The Hon. Peter Dutton MP on behalf of WPP and our clients. Peter discussed the challenge of ensuring that Australia has a reliable and affordable energy system as we move to decarbonise our economy. 19 of the 20 G20 countries are using, or plan to use, nuclear energy. Australia is the outlier, and the Labor Government's decision to not partner with the US and the UK at COP29 Azerbaijan is the latest example of Labor embarrassing the country on the international stage. Business and consumers want cheaper energy. And cost of living is going to the key factor that drives vote at the next federal election. The Liberal Party of Australia and the National Party of Australia have committed to developing a nuclear industry in Australia that in time will deliver affordable, reliable energy, as part of a mix that includes renewables. How the Prime Minster and Labor try to explain to Australians that they know better than the rest of the world, and that their renewable only policy is the best way forward, could become the defining issue of the election. Despite the spin from Labor, the Queensland Election result is a resounding victory for the LNP - Liberal National Party. The latest 2PP vote for the LNP is over 54 percent - pretty much exactly what the public polls were predicting weeks ago. There were a lot of armchair experts early on election night suggesting that the LNP were not going to gain a majority. The TV networks and others might need to rethink their election night coverage in the future. As voters increasingly choose to cast their ballots well before election day, making predications based on early counts is only going to get more inaccurate. With well over 50 seats in the Queensland Parliament, David Crisafulli MP will have a strong majority to help him deliver a fresh start for Queensland. It's an exciting time for new ministers, members of parliament, and their staff. But I can't help thinking of the many ALP staff who've woken up without a job to go to. I've been through the same experience after an election, and the feeling that the community have rejected your efforts over the preceding years is hard. Everyone who puts their hand up to work in a political office should be proud of the contributions they've made, and recognise that the skills and experiences they've gained in government will be hugely valued on the other side.

Congratulations to David Crisafulli MP and the LNP - Liberal National Party on their state election victory in Queensland. David, Jarrod Bleijie MP, David Janetzki and the team will deliver the change that Queensland needs. In politics it can be so hard to keep focus and discipline when the shots are being fired from the other side. Ben Riley, Michael Negerevich, Lawrence Springborg and all the team should be so proud of how they kept the campaign pointing in the right direction as Labor tried to knock them off course. Forming a new government is an immense privilege, and I can't wait to work with the team over the coming weeks and years. Barton Deakin Government Relations

Great to host our clients, and catch up with friends and colleagues, at the Queensland Media Club Election Debate in Brisbane. David Crisafulli MP did an outstanding job spelling out why it's time for a change of government in Queensland. The LNP - Liberal National Party have a clear plan to fix the big four crises facing Queenslanders: ➡️ Cost of Living ➡️ Crime ➡️ Housing ➡️ Health If the government changes on 26 October, Barton Deakin Government Relations and our colleagues at Burson look forward to helping our clients work with the incoming team.
