We're proud to be building this incredible project for Australian Energy Operations 👏 👏
We’re in a spin about the progress of works at the site of the Ararat Terminal Station synchronous condenser (Syncon) – a large spinning machine which burns no fuel – but plays a crucial role in the lights staying on across Victoria. With large coal power stations retiring, it’s facilities like this one that will deliver system strength to the transmission network to support new renewable generation in the area. Civil works are well underway, as the foundation of one of the region’s most important pieces of energy infrastructure comes together. The Ararat Terminal Station Syncon will be the largest of its type anywhere in Australia and will unlock up to 600MW of new renewable energy generation in the area. By helping maintain system strength –stable voltage support which helps the transmission network manage any faults or disturbances – the Syncon helps provide more “room” for new generation to connect. We're delivering this project through our subsidiary, Transmission Operations Australia 3 Pty Ltd, on behalf of Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and Victorian Government, with the project being built by industry leading renewable construction partner Beon Energy Solutions. ANDRITZ is supplying the world-leading technology for the project. When complete at the end of 2025, the Ararat Syncon will enable more solar, more wind and more battery storage technology to connect in one of Australia’s most important regions for renewable generation.
