Today, our team had the incredible opportunity to visit Bolinda's head office for a tour of their Melbourne facilities, hosted by, Joseph Camilleri, Nicole Sutton and the team. Bolinda (or BorrowBox as you might know it) make books come alive for everyone. Anywhere, everywhere! We had the privilege of meeting one of the visionary CEO’s Rebecca Herrmann, who shared the story of how Bolinda was founded in her grandparents bookstore in Collins St Melbourne. #wow Rebecca is passionate in making reading more accessible to communities worldwide. It was fascinating to see firsthand how her innovative platforms and content are developed to support libraries in engaging readers of all ages. From the creative process behind their vast audiobook collection to the technology driving their BorrowBox App, the visit highlights the Digital Library offering for our community. Our Digital Library usage grows daily and use of platforms like BorrowBox are a big part of this! The audiobook of Be, Bad Better is coming soon! It was an *experience* reading for a full 4 days - in many ways, a lovely one, thanks to the excellent people at Bolinda who made the utter weirdness of reading your own words much less weird than it could have been. I managed not to mentally edit every word while I read it (just some of them), but it absolutely validated what I often tell the new writers who I mentor and coach: there really is nothing quite like reading your work aloud to help you know whether you're saying what you want to say. (Happily, I *mostly* did say what I want to say.) I'm so proud of this book - it's very personal and it goes against much of what we are constantly told about optimising ourselves and our lives and our bodies and our brains (mainly to get us to buy new stuff) so I'd love it to reach more people in audio format.

This is Nick from Bolinda - This week he and the team helped me record all 70000+ words of #YouAreMoreThanWhatYouEat for audiobook (Stay tuned audiobook fans, I’ll let you know when it’s out!). That meant Nick had to listen to some of those words over and over, but we got there in the end! I was a bit nervous to start with but honestly it ended up being a joy. Nick had a wonderful balance of helping me get it “right” while also leaning into my “perfectly imperfect” with me. By the end, I was even used to hearing my own sassy, know-it-all voice back at me in the headphones. At times I felt like I was listening to someone else talk! I eventually stopped saying sorry when I misread, and I’m not even sad about the typos that slipped through multiple rounds of professional proofreading (and there weren't even that many). I’ve learned some things that I'll keep in mind for future books.
