We’re beyond excited to announce that Cancer Council Australia and The Australian Government have WON an ARIA Award! 🎶🎉 JK-47's track for Laneway Festival, as part of last year’s End the Trend campaign, has been awarded “Best Use of an Australian Recording in an Advertisement.” The campaign not only raised awareness about skin cancer prevention but also challenged attitudes towards suntanning, making a real impact - reminding Australians to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, and Slide. A massive thank you to everyone who made this possible - our amazing partners at Bolster Group, Publicis Groupe, Keep Left, and of course, the very talented JK-47. https://lnkd.in/gfXTcvcd

Every minute, every hour, every day we’re working towards a cancer free future.
About us
As Australia's peak national non-government cancer control organisation, we are leading the change needed to reduce the impact of cancer now and in the future. Cancer Council leads national action to improve cancer control and care for people with cancer and their caregivers. Cancer Council Australia advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer. We also advocate for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care. Our independence means we can direct our funding where it is most needed and influence the public agenda to improve outcomes for people with all types of cancer, and across all stages of the cancer journey. We work with our members (the eight state and territory Cancer Councils) to prevent and control cancer, and provide support for people affected by cancer. It’s National Skin Cancer Action Week 2024! ☀️ We are joining forces with the ACD - The Australasian College of Dermatologists to encourage all Australians to make sun protection a daily habit to protect their skin from UV exposure. Often called our ‘national cancer’, Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, with two in three Australians developing skin cancer in their lifetime. Most of us know someone who has been impacted, whether they’re a family member, a friend, a colleague or a neighbour. 📊 Recent statistics show that only 53.9% of Australians utilised three or more forms of sun protection during peak UV times last summer. This is concerning, as over-exposure to UV radiation is responsible for up to 95% of melanomas, the most dangerous form of skin cancer. The good news? Skin cancer is almost entirely preventable. Let’s make sun protection a habit to protect our skin from UV exposure and ensure a healthier future for all Australians. Read our new article, with insights from Doctor Adriene Lee, President of the Australasian College of Dermatologists: https://brnw.ch/21wOHVA When the UV is 3 or above, remember to use all five forms of sun protection: Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, and Slide. #NationalSkinCancerActionWeek #SunSafeHabits #ProtectYourSkin

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide, and most cases are caused by tobacco smoking. In Australia, about 90% of lung cancer cases in males and 65% in females are estimated to be a result of tobacco smoking. There are many ways you can reduce your risk: 👀 Try to quit smoking. If you're not sure where to start, then talk to your doctor or call Quit on 137848 about strategies and tools for quitting smoking. 🤝Avoid second-hand smoke. If you have smokers in your family or workplace, request them to smoke outside. Avoid areas where people smoke such as designated smoking areas. 😷Always protect yourself from exposure to toxic chemicals at work by wearing a face mask. 🍎Eat a rich, whole food diet of fruits and vegetables. 🚶Try to exercise most days of the week - If you don't exercise regularly, start out slowly by going for a gentle walk and gradually increase the distance or speed over time. It's a great way to get some fresh air and boost your mood as well. (Don't forget to slip, slap, slop, seek, slide if you're heading outside when the UV level is 3 or above). This is your chance to contribute and help shape this important work we’ve produced in collaboration with Cancer Australia and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).
