Cancer Council is the only charity to work across every area of every cancer from prevention, research and support.

About us

Cancer never rests, so neither do we. Cancer Council is the only charity to work across every area of every cancer, from research to prevention and support. We help people from the point of diagnosis through to treatment and survivorship. Every day at Cancer Council SA, we: • Support families impacted by cancer when they need it most, with practical, emotional and financial support. Last year, we helped over 46,000 people get the support they need through our 13 11 20 information and support line. • Speak up on your behalf, calling on our government to make positive changes to create cancer free communities. South Australia now has its lowest smoking rate ever recorded, at just 14.9 per cent. • Empower you to stay SunSmart, keep healthy, stay vigilant and minimise your cancer risk, because we know that one in three cancer cases can be prevented through positive lifestyle change. • Fund over 200 research initiatives as part of the Beat Cancer Project, exploring new ways to better detect and treat cancer. Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen over 61,000 Australian lives saved thanks to improvements in cancer screening, prevention and treatment. Every minute, every hour, every day, we’re getting closer to a cancer free future. And tomorrow, with your help, we’ll start again.

  • Each year at our staff and volunteer end of year celebration, we present our annual Chief Executive Awards which recognise outstanding staff achievements across the organisation. We were so pleased to present our Individual Award to Michael Humphrys, our Digital Product Manager. Michael has been pivotal to the significant digital change across Cancer Council SA this year, working tirelessly to find improvements, challenge the current process and work side by side with everyone in the organisation. Our Team Award was presented to our Salesforce working group who helped us co-design and launch our new Salesforce Non-profit Cloud CRM. Their unwavering effort and dedication over the past 18 months has helped us become one of the first organisations globally to achieve this milestone that will have a lasting impact on our organisation. It was fantastic to all get together to celebrate everything we've achieved in 2024. We want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of our staff and volunteers who have all played a role in our achievements this year, working towards reducing the rate and impact of cancer for all South Australians. #CancerCouncilSA

  • Mollie from our SunSmart Team, Di from our Support Team and our volunteer Ilona have been busy getting ready for our final delivery of packs to go out to schools and centres that have joined the SunSmart Program or have renewed their SunSmart recognition this term. Just in time, before school wraps up for the year! Over 1,000 South Aussie schools and early childhood centres are now recognised as SunSmart.
