About us
CDF is here to help you put your faith into action. We do this by funding and supporting Catholic organisations to continue the work the Gospel calls on us to do. For over 60 years now, CDF has been supporting communities and continually improving an approach that allows us to provide a unique level of support across our footprint of schools, parishes and more recently healthcare and social service providers. Every time, balancing margin and mission for the greater good. SUPPORTING GOOD WORK The primary role of CDF is to support the work of Catholic organisations. While this work is increasingly complex and the demand for services grows, our customers’ needs can’t always be met by the traditional banking sector. However, our values-based approach to lending, backed by our rigour and professionalism as a financial organisation, allows us to provide support from within the Church. In this way, we give Catholic organisations every possible chance to put their faith into action. To this end, our lending is based on a unique set of criteria when compared to other financial organisations: • We are guided by Catholic Social Teachings that provide a set of principles for building a society based on love, respect and human dignity. • We are committed to the common-good, and the fact that we are a Development Fund and not a bank, means we have the freedom to support our customers who otherwise may not be eligible for support from the traditional banking sector. In over 60 years of work devoted to the common-good, CDF has never registered a bad debt. • Funding from within means Catholic endeavours and enterprises can be relatively self-sufficient, rather than relying on a banking system exposed to unpredictable and volatile market influences. Put simply, we are here to support the common good and those charged with doing good in our communities. A wonderful Thanksgiving Mass to bring us all together and celebrate an impactful and connected year.
Last week, staff from Catholic agencies across the Archdiocese gathered together to celebrate the end of the year with a Thanksgiving Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishops Peter Comensoli and concelebrated by Vicar General Fr Tony Kerin and Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral Monsignor Stuart Hall. This year, the VMCH Christmas Hamper Appeal delivered hope and joy to 850 people doing it tough, including Affordable Housing residents, VMCH home care and disability clients, students with disability at St Paul’s College, and children in VMCH’s disability early intervention program. The CDF team was proud to support this wonderful cause donating $5,000, providing hamper treats, and volunteering alongside VMCH staff to ensure each package reached those who needed it most. At a time when many struggle just to cover the basics, these hampers are a heartfelt reminder that the true meaning of Christmas isn’t found in wrapping paper, but in the kindness we share with one another. Join us in continuing to spread this generosity. Last week, Catholic Development Fund (Catholic Development Fund (CDF) proudly participated in the 2024 Annual Christmas Gift Appeal with MacKillop Family Services an initiative close to our hearts. This wonderful cause brings hope and joy to children and young people in care, ensuring they experience the magic of Christmas. Since 2022, the CDF team has embraced this tradition, carefully selecting gifts and gift vouchers to brighten the season for those who may otherwise miss out on its special moments. Pictured, CDF CEO Matthew Cassin joined Sam Patterson of Community Engagement at MacKillop Family Services, to celebrate the ongoing collaboration that makes this appeal so meaningful. VMCH it was wonderful to celebrate another major milestone with you at the “topping out” ceremony last week. CDF is proud be funding a development that not only meets the needs of the local over 55’s community but will also help to fund affordable and disability housing needs across the state. Congratulations on the mid way point and we can’t wait to see the finished project in 2026.
We’ve reached a major milestone at VMCH’s St. Clare retirement living precinct in partnership with Hacer Group. On December 5th, we celebrated the Topping Out Ceremony at Studley Park in Kew, marking the completion of the frame for all four residential buildings. 🏡✨ This $250m project is set to redefine retirement living for those over 55 with 103 premium apartments featuring innovative architecture, expansive green spaces, and breathtaking views. 🌿🌅 A big thank you to the 80 guests who joined us, including representatives from Hacer Group, Woods Bagot, the VMCH team, Mayor of Boroondara Cr Sophie Torney, and Member for Kew Ms Jess Wilson. St. Clare will generate over 300 jobs at its peak, with more than 2,000 people contributing to the project by its completion in late 2025. 👷♀️👷♂️ We can’t wait to welcome our future residents to this vibrant community!
