🙌 We are thrilled to announce that Helen Emmerson is our new Executive Director. You can read her story, 'From nurse to CEO' at Catholic Outlook. Helen has a strong knowledge of our mission and unique role in the community, after serving on our Advisory Council since 2019. It was during this time she says she could see how valuable the organisation is in Western Sydney, and how it helps people where traditional services do not. But after she started as Executive Director her belief and passion for Catholic Care “quadrupled”. “We have some amazing staff who are really loyal and committed to the Catholic Care ethos and committed to improving client outcomes,” she said. Please join us in congratulating Helen! Diocese of Parramatta Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese Community Ventures https://lnkd.in/gqr9svSE

This week, the teams from Catholic Care and Baulkham Hills Family Day Care (a service proudly run by Catholic Care) came together for a day of reflection, celebration, and connection. We took time to reflect on the achievements of the past year, and to explore how we, as a passionate not-for-profit social welfare organisation, can better embody Christ’s message of love and service in our beautifully diverse communities across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. The day began with a warm welcome and an Acknowledgement of Country, before we embarked on a journey to explore Catholic Care’s rich history of serving those who need it most. We also unpacked our new three-year strategic plan, congratulated our colleagues who have reached significant long-service milestones, and enjoyed the Christmas spirit with lots of laughter. As we look ahead to the new year, we’re excited to begin with a renewed sense of purpose and a shared vision to support those who need it most. #Culture #Teamwork

Today, Catholic Care WSBM joined in on the fun at the Diocese of Parramatta's annual Parramatta Street Feast! It was a wonderful event that brought us together as a community to support those facing homelessness and hardship. Brooke McGilvray, head of services at Catholic Care WSBM said, “This event provides a chance to learn more about the services we offer, but also to collaborate with other like-minded organisations to create new initiatives that can make a real difference.” #ParramattaStreetFeast #ParramattaStreetFeast2024 #Housing #Homelessness #SupportLocal

Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains reposted this
A lively Mexican fiesta filled our Chancery office this morning, as we joyfully celebrated the 25th anniversary of priesthood for Very Rev Luis Fernando Montano Rodriguez VG PP, our Vicar General. The air was alive with the festive sounds of a Mariachi duo, accompanied by singing, clapping, cake, and plenty of celebration. This special gathering was timed for Fr Fernando's return to Australia following his visit to family in Mexico. His official priestly anniversary was on 1 October, a milestone he had celebrated as parish priest of St Bernadette’s Castle Hill. In addition to his role as Vicar General and Parish Priest, Fr Fernando serves as Episcopal Vicar for Social Welfare and member of the Social Services Council at Catholic Care Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains. Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv, Bishop of Parramatta, acknowledged Fr Fernando's many contributions and roles, and thanked him for his leadership and dedicated service to the community. “He has served his parish well, and we join together in congratulating him on his 25th anniversary of Ordination,” Bishop Vincent said. Grateful for the unexpected celebration, Fr Fernando reflected on his quarter-century of priestly ministry and the celebrations surrounding it. “The support you give me is really, really great,” he said. “It took me 25 years to get here, and I’m not going to celebrate it just in one day.” Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

Housing was in the spotlight at this year’s 2024 Sydney Alliance Convention, providing the opportunity to meet with political and community leaders, share the stories of our community, and advocate for better housing availability and affordability, and support for our programs including: 🏠 Our nationally accredited Houses to Homes program, which supports young women and children who are homeless or at serious risk or homelessness, and 👨👩👧👦 Our refugee sponsorship program, which provides essential accommodation and supports for local refugee families in their first 12 months of arrival to Australia, and beyond. Thank you to Houses to Homes coordinator Maree Hanna and refugee sponsorship coordinator Rita Hakkoum for sharing the stories of our clients at the event and advocating for improved housing and living affordability.
The 2024 Sydney Alliance Convention in Blacktown last night provided a fantastic opportunity to listen and share stories on current issues impacting our local community, while engaging with local community leaders, encouraging them to take action on these issues. More than 420 attendees gathered and shared stories of housing availability and affordability, the rental market and the cost of living – issues that remain key in Western Sydney. Bishop of Parramatta, Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv represented the Diocese and engaged with community leaders and politicians, along with members of Diocese including representatives from the Peace, Justice and Ecology and Mission Enhancement teams, Catholic Care Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains, and students and staff from St John XXIII Catholic College Stanhope Gardens. Organising committee member and Head of Peace, Justice and Ecology Dr Sebastian Salaske-Lentern led the group table discussions and made a pledge on behalf of the Diocese to maintain its strong voice and representation at the Sydney Alliance’s Federal Assembly next year. Political representatives at the event included NSW Minister for Housing, The Hon. Rose Jackson MLC, NSW Greens Senator David Shoebridge, Susan Templeman MP - Federal Member for Macquarie, as well as number of political staffers. The Diocese of Parramatta has been an active member of the Sydney Alliance since 2008, and continues to advocate for the needs and challenges of people living in our community. Thank you to the Sydney Alliance for hosting yet another engaging and influential event. A memorial service held at Mamre House in Orchard Hills this month enabled families and individuals experiencing the heavy burden of grief to commemorate their loved ones by planting a tree and dedicating a stone in the new Remembrance Garden. October is globally recognised as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month - a time to acknowledge and comfort those experiencing grief, loss and isolation. No one should have to walk the journey of miscarriage and pregnancy loss alone. Special thanks to Catholic Care Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains and White Lady Funerals for hosting this memorial service, which reflects the ongoing care and support at the core of Catholic Care WSBM. Thank you also to Executive Director Helen Emmerson for sharing your personal story.

At Catholic Care Western Sydney and Blue Mountains, care and support are at our core. It is a privilege every day to lead this wonderful organization. We are an organization that provides vital services to people most in need. This week was no exception, and I am incredibly proud of our team for organising our inaugural Memorial Service for Pregnancy and Infant Loss at Mamre House. October is recognized globally as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and our Memorial Service was held to remember those whose loss often goes unseen, yet whose pain runs deep – women and families who have experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss. Miscarriage, stillbirth and infant loss are losses that carry a unique weight. They represent dreams unfulfilled and love that had no chance to fully bloom. For many, these experiences are shrouded in silence, leaving us to grieve in the quiet corners of our lives. Our service gave women the opportunity to remember, it gave space to their grief and once again gave women the chance to say goodbye and remember in a very special way. This day was deeply personal for myself as well, having suffered multiple miscarriages over the years and the support and sense of connection was truly uplifting. Thank you to our wonderful women that attended and to the wonderful team of Catholic Care Western Sydney and Blue Mountains. Catholic Care Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains

I love an opportunity to share the work of @Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, and the @Diocese of Parramatta’s 38th Annual Golf Day provided just that. This year’s event was underscored by a common purpose: to raise awareness about the more serious topic of homelessness in our community, and the work we do at Catholic Care WSBM to tackle it. I was proud to share the outstanding work being delivered through our Houses to Homes program, which continues to support homeless young pregnant women and mothers with children in our community. Special thanks to Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv and the @Diocese of Parramatta, as well as Richmond Golf Club and their organisers, sponsors and supporters. Your generous fundraising and support is much appreciated, as it supports our dedicated staff and volunteers to continue God’s mission of service and care in our most vulnerable communities of Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. #socialservices #westernsydney #homelessness

We continue to provide vital support to pregnant women and young mothers with children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in our community. The Diocese of Parramatta’s annual golf day was a valuable opportunity to highlight this important topic and raise awareness of the work our dedicated staff and volunteers do to provide holistic support to women and children in Sydney’s west. It’s not just about safe shelter – we also provide a range of holistic emotional, mental, financial, educational, administrative and parenting supports. Learn more about Houses to Homes, or contact us to find out more: https://lnkd.in/g8RfNwvX
The sun was shining as we held our 38th annual golf day at Richmond Golf Club this week – raising vital funds to support the homeless and those in need in Sydney’s west. Nearly 150 golfers donned their best gear to take a swing on the fresh green. Bishop of Parramatta, Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv attended the post-game luncheon along with nearly 200 attendees. The focus of this year’s event was the Houses to Homes program, an initiative tackling homelessness among young women run by the Diocese’s social services agency, Catholic Care Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains. Houses to Homes provides young women with children who are homeless or at serious risk with safe, transitional housing for up to two years. The program also provides a host of wellbeing, education and parenting supports. In addition to Houses to Homes, funds raised will go towards the Diocese’s Mackillop Scholarship to support impoverished students. An awards presentation recognised outstanding service by members of the community. Special thanks to Catholic Care WSBM Executive Director Helen Emmerson, Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese, committee organisers including Ian Jordan and Attila Lendvai, Richmond Golf Club, and event sponsors Oz Fashions, Parramatta, Parravans Caravan World, Windsor, Avan, St Marys, Grange Growing Solutions, Ebenezer, Unique Flooring Seven Hills, Hawkesbury Accident Repair Centre, Windsor, Murphy Family Agency (Country Road), Banham Golf, RGC PGA Professional, Richmond Club Limited and the Diocesan Development Fund.
