Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia was delighted to accept an invitation from John Mawson, Managing Director of Mawsons, to visit their impressive operations in regional Victoria. Mawsons is a true Australian family success story, starting in 1912 with E.B. (Barney) Mawson in the Kerang Shire. Fast forward to today, this proud legacy continues as a joint venture with Adbri since 2007. With 16 quarry sites, 40 concrete plants, and 7 landscaping centres, Mawsons plays a critical role in supporting Northern and Central Victoria and Southern NSW’s construction needs. Their operations also include mobile crushing and screening equipment and an impressive fleet of delivery trucks, ensuring efficiency and reliability across the region. Michael Kilgariff, Brian Hauser GAICD, and Roger Buckley had the opportunity to tour key sites, including the Seymour and Lake Cooper Quarry operations and the Blue Hills greenfield site near Maldon. This operation is an important part of the Victorian Heavy Construction Materials industry, which is a logistics powerhouse, accounting for 24% of total freight by weight. With 1,500 concrete agitators, 600 tippers, and 280 cement tankers on the move, transport efficiency is essential. Logistics can represent up to 25% of the final material costs, making proximity to projects vital for reducing costs and emissions across transport, energy, housing, defence, water, and social infrastructure projects. A huge thanks to John Mawson and the team for showcasing this cornerstone of our industry! #ConstructionMaterials #Logistics #RegionalSuccess #CCAA #Sustainability #HeavyTransport

Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia CEO Michael Kilgariff recently had an Opinion Piece in Infrastructure Magazine, outlining the important role the heavy construction materials industry has to play in Australia’s transition to net zero. Cement, concrete, and aggregates form the backbone of our nation’s infrastructure – from roads and bridges to housing, buildings, energy and more. With demand growing, we must innovate to reduce emissions while meeting the needs of our expanding population. At Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia, we are committed to Net Zero by 2050, a challenge that requires bold strategies and strong collaboration. Our Decarbonisation Pathways for the Australian Cement and Concrete Sector highlights key actions: ✅ Adopting whole-of-life carbon approaches for infrastructure. ✅ Revising outdated standards to enable lower-carbon solutions. ✅ Promoting material efficiency and the use of supplementary cementitious materials. ✅ Supporting the transition to zero-emission heavy vehicles. We’re advocating for government policies that incentivise innovation, improve standards, and showcase successful low-carbon projects. Interim solutions, such as biodiesel and performance-based material specifications, can help bridge the gap as we transition to more sustainable practices. #NetZero #Infrastructure #Sustainability #Decarbonisation #CCAA #ConstructionMaterials #Innovation https://lnkd.in/gfScpgWv
