CODA is delighted to see the signing of a partnership agreement between the Australian and UK governments to strengthen collaboration on #offshore #decommissioning. This agreement signals a significant opportunity to exchange knowledge, share technologies, and build stronger supply chains across both regions. We look forward to working with industry and government to support this shared vision. The agreement was signed by the Australian Department of Industry, Science and Resources Minister for Resources and Minister for Northern Australia, Madeleine King, and the UK Department for Business and Trade Minister for Services, Small Businesses and Exports, Gareth Thomas MP. CODA welcomes the release, by the federal Minister for Resources the Hon Madeleine King, of Australia’s Offshore Resources #Decommissioning Roadmap. Having a clear framework that outlines the plans of the Australian government to support the maturing of the offshore decommissioning industry is a vital step forward for the sector's growth. We’re excited to see how this roadmap will help shape a sustainable, innovative, and collaborative industry. CODA looks forward to working closely with the government, our partners, and the broader supply chain to strengthen Australia’s decommissioning capabilities. A big congratulations to GOWell, the winners of our second Xplore challenge, which focused on solutions for the remote detection of hydrocarbons below environmental plugs in temporarily abandoned wells, with the aim of improving the safety and cost-effectiveness of final well abandonment. All submissions were carefully evaluated against criteria such as innovation, feasibility, technology readiness, and potential for prototype development. After thorough consideration, GOWell’s acoustic pulse tool concept was selected as the top solution, demonstrating great potential to deliver critical information on the presence or absence of fluid build-up below cement plugs and has a viable pathway to prototype and commercial development.. CODA and the challenge owner would like to thank everyone who submitted their innovative ideas and engaged with the process. Stay tuned for our next Xplore challenge—coming in Q1 2025 to tackle another real-world #decommissioning issue!
