Covering 129.5 square kilometres, the city is home to more than 160,000 residents, with people coming from 157 different birth places and more than half of our residents born overseas. Greater Dandenong is recognised as the capital of the south east and is Victoria’s manufacturing heartland. The city is home to more than 12,500 businesses and in excess of 70,000 people are employed locally. The city boasts 197 parks and 616 hectares of open space, a number of state-of-the-art cultural facilities including the multi-million dollar Drum Theatre, cultural precincts and cuisine, strong retail centres and the iconic Dandenong Market.   • This week we celebrate 30 years of the City of Greater Dandenong.   On 15 December 1994, most of the former City of Dandenong, City of Springvale, as well as small parts of the former City of Berwick and City of Cranbourne were proclaimed the 'City of Greater Dandenong' by Order of the Governor in Council.   Happy 30th birthday to us! 🥳

  • Congratulations to our Arts and Festivals and Events teams for their success at the Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence held last Wednesday 4 December, coordinated by the Victorian Multicultural Commission. - Arts Award - Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre, City of Greater Dandenong, Winner Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre was recognised as Dandenong's Hub for contemporary art. It was praised for encouraging intercultural dialogue, and promoting social cohesion through art, culinary experiences and collaborative events that connect the multicultural community in Dandenong. - Local Government Award - City of Greater Dandenong Council Festivals and Events, Highly Commended Springvale Snow Fest was recognised for bringing together 35,000 people to celebrate multiculturalism, fostering social connectedness, local business engagement and tourism. Congratulations once again to our extremely dedicated and hardworking teams.

  • Our community wanted the new Keysborough South Community Hub to have an innovative and environmentally sustainable design. With 260 solar panels installed and 60,000 litres of rainwater storage for re-use, plus another 100,000 litres of underground stormwater storage, our newest Hub is on track to be a five-star Green Star sustainable facility.   • Thank you to everyone that joined us this week on our Walk Against Family Violence.   We are very grateful to Simone O'Brien for sharing her powerful story and to our guests, Tim Richardson MP, Lee Tarlamis MP, Ann-Marie Hermans MP, Mayor Cr Jim Memeti, Cr Lana Formoso, Cr Phillip Danh, Cr Rhonda Garad PhD, Cr Hadi Saab (City of Kingston), Josh West and our CEO Jacqui Weatherill.   Lastly, we thank staff who assisted in the organisation of the event and the large number of staff and community groups who took a stand to end family violence.

  • Congratulations to Cr Jim Memeti who has been elected Mayor for the coming year and Cr Sophie Tan who has been elected Deputy Mayor. As Mayor, Cr Memeti is committed to being accessible and accountable to our residents in order to make a lasting impact in the municipality. Cr Tan is keen to see continued revitalisation of Noble Park and Springvale. Cr Memeti thanked Cr Lana Formoso for her service as Mayor throughout 2023-24, and he particularly noted her passionate advocacy on road safety. Cr Tan also extended thanks to previous Deputy Mayor, Cr Richard Lim, noting he will continue his passionate advocacy for Springvale in coming years.
