Nature should be easily accessible for everyone. Which is why we are thrilled to support 'Opening the Door to Nature', a project creating more accessible experiences in our local parks. Last week, Glenthorne National Park hosted disability leaders from South Asia, showcasing this initiative, which includes all-terrain assisted e-trikes, the MT Push, now available for hire at Belair National Park. The MT Push will enable individuals to easily navigate a range of terrains, from gravel to grass, mud and uneven pathways. This project is a collaborative effort led by the Cities of Yankalilla and Mitcham, the Legatus Group, and National Parks and Wildlife Service SA, and funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. Tis the season… for disaster preparedness. With the extreme weather season upon us, we’ve been busy assisting councils to prepare for their roles in emergency response. Today we were with City of Mitcham running a joint Business Continuity Plan and emergency management exercise.  It was a semi functional exercise that explored a scenario that impacted council service delivery, as well as requiring additional support to the community and the Control Agency. Shout out to Leanne McCartney from the LGFSG for the injects that brought a real world perspective to the day. Yesterday we facilitated training and an exercise for Adelaide Hills Council’s commanders and admin officers. This was a back to basics day focused on testing equipment, communication and decision making processes, and the use of checklists, risk assessments and templates. These are great examples of councils keeping their emergency management skills up to date - and building confidence and finding gaps through the process. Michael Arman Karla Billington

City of Mitcham’s Immunisation Service Team enjoyed hearing from 2022 SA Australian of the Year and 2023 SA Scientist of the Year Professor Helen Siobhan Marshall AM at the SA Vaccinology Conference last week. The conference brought together immunisation providers, public health practitioners, GPs, nurses, obstetricians, midwives and Aboriginal health practitioners to hear the latest research and policy updates related to immunisation in Australia. City of Mitcham holds four regular public immunisation clinics each month, along with a school immunisation program, school catch-up clinics and worksite influenza clinics. In the last quarter, a total of 1,007 vaccines were provided to the community at the Civic Centre at Torrens Park and Tiwu Kumangka at Blackwood along with pop-up clinics at Pasadena Community Centre. 🎉 It's been 12 months since we opened our newest community facility, Tiwu Kumangka, at Young Street, Blackwood. A new home for the Blackwood Library, Blackwood Community Centre and Blackwood Toy Library, as well as new gallery and learning spaces, this facility has become a thriving hub for the community. Last October we had a huge turnout to our opening and the community support has continued. If you haven't visited, make time to stop in next time you're in Blackwood, and stay up to date with all the community events by following the @Tiwu Kumangka Facebook or Instagram pages or our website here: https://lnkd.in/gC5ij7dh
