Forrest Walk was transformed into a Mediterranean haven for the launch event for Subi Spritz 2025 last week! Now in its fourth year, the popular food and wine festival is set to feature pop-up restaurants and bars, aperitivo trails, outdoor live music, and a pop-up cinema. Mayor David McMullen said, “Events like Subi Spritz not only showcase the unique character of Subiaco, they also provide an important boost to our local businesses. We will see residents and visitors all coming out to enjoy some of the best of what our City has to offer.” Check out the Subi Spritz 2025 line-up here: https://bit.ly/4bc9IZl

The City of Subiaco's 2025 cohort of mentors and mentees gathered this morning to mark the launch of the 2025 Inner City Council Mentoring Program. The program pairs up mentors with mentees from the City of Subiaco, City of Perth, City of Vincent, City of South Perth, or Town of Victoria Park. The program runs for six months, and has been designed to provide professional and leadership development opportunities, an opportunity to collaborate and share knowledge and experience, and the chance to improve overall organisational capability. This year, the City has eight mentees; Danielle Campbell, Brenton Boddington, Leila Naderi, Niresh Shrestha, Sarah Herbert, Haylee Edwards, Aurland Baluyot and Kaitie Cushing, and seven mentors; Emma Woolaston, Alexander Petrovski, Cathy Sever, James Hambly, Kirsten Cooper, Kevin Gill and Elizabeth Connolly. A big congratulations to our mentors and mentees - we look forward to hearing about your experiences and learnings over the next six months!

We sponsored two delegates to attend the Curtin Executive Education Ignition Program 2024, and we asked participant Olga Abbott, founder of Studio Thimbles, about her experience in the intensive program. Olga said the most rewarding part of the program was the opportunity to interact with other participants in small groups. "Working in smaller groups with mentors, facilitators, and fellow participants daily allowed me to discuss my specific business challenges and ideas, and get constructive feedback tailored to my business," she said. "My biggest takeaway was learning to create and deliver a 10-minute pitch. Developing and presenting this pitch to a panel helped me sharpen my ability to communicate my vision, and offered valuable feedback for my proposed future new offerings. Since the program, I've expanded my offerings to include private creative parties and corporate team-building workshops, offering a fun introduction to sewing while also promoting sustainable practices like repairing and repurposing clothing."

It has been two months since Curtin University's 2024 Ignition Program, and this year, the City sponsored two delegates, including Selina Peng, a qualified social worker with an established at-home practice in Shenton Park. Selina said, "The program was an incredible, hands-on introduction to the world of entrepreneurship. I had the chance to meet so many amazing, like-minded people all working on solving unique problems in creative and innovative ways." "My biggest takeaway was learning how to make decisions based on data and staying flexible when things change. The program made me realise that my original business idea wasn't going to work, which has given me the clarity and confidence to pivot early and move forward in a completely new direction, armed with the tools and knowledge I gained." "The program gave me the momentum to co-found a brand-new business idea with my husband, and things have been moving quickly ever since! If you have the time, energy, and focus to fully dedicate a week to exploring the potential of your idea or business, I can't recommend Ignition enough."
