Last week, we held our annual Volunteer Appreciation Sundowner, and honoured Sylvia Wright with the Volunteer of the Year Award for her almost 20 years of volunteering service with the City. Sylvia currently organises the weekly Seniors Coffee Club catch-up, and is an advocate for the City's Positive Ageing program. Mayor David McMullen said, "Each of the City's volunteers - whether they volunteer with us directly, or with other community organisations operating within our district - play a vital role in creating community." This week, we held our inaugural Industry Insights Series luncheon for Subi's buzzing creative industry sector. The event was designed as an interactive 'think tank'; an opportunity for local business owners and workers to chat all things Subi and business...now and into the future. Thanks for everyone who joined in the luncheon. Ideas were flowing and it was great to be able to connect.

"Remembrance Day is an appropriate time for us all to remember our country's past and pay homage to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice or simply just survived. There are about 280 names on the Fallen Soldiers' Memorial behind me, reminding us of the sacrifice made by Subiaco in the First and Second World Wars." - Peter Hopper, President of the Subiaco-Shenton Park RSL Sub Branch. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Rankin Gardens for our Remembrance Day Service this morning. Lest we forget.

Congratulations to our Community Development team who took out the Connecting Communities award (population over 15,000) at the LG Professionals WA Honour Awards on Tuesday night! The award recognised the City's IDAHOBIT Rainbow Procession project, which saw two local LGBTQIA+ support groups at Perth Modern School and Shenton College come together to parade down Rokeby Road with rainbow umbrellas to raise awareness and improve the social wellbeing of young LGBTQIA+ people in Subiaco. After the event, all the participants reported feeling happier, safer and more connected. One student said, "Walking down Rokeby Road with the rainbow umbrellas was my favourite part. It showed the community that we exist. And it was really nice to see so many people smiling at us." Read more about the award and project here: https://bit.ly/4fCSmWq

A financial contribution from the City has helped revitalise the Daglish Tennis Club; an important part of the local community for the past 90 years. At a special family fun day event yesterday, Mayor David McMullen officially opened the newly refurbished clubroom and ablution block, and the club welcomed people to play a few games and socialise with fellow players. Mayor David McMullen said, "I applaud the members for their commitment to the tennis club, and their combined efforts towards the facility upgrades. Now the job is done, I hope the club members can enjoy the new amenities, attract some new people to club, and of course - play lots of tennis.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3Tx7EnO
