Promote and enable safe and healthy work.

About us

Comcare partners with workers, their employers and unions to keep workers healthy and safe, and reduce the incidence and cost of workplace injury and disease. We implement the Australian Government’s policies in federal workplaces to drive social inclusion and productivity. We have three outcomes that guide us: 1) The protection of the health, safety and welfare at work of workers covered by the Comcare scheme through education, assurance and enforcement. 2) An early and safe return to work and access to compensation for injured workers covered by the Comcare scheme by working in partnership with employers to create best practice in rehabilitation and by providing quick and accurate management of workers’ compensation claims. 3) Access to compensation for people with asbestos-related diseases where the Commonwealth has a liability. In addition to the above outcomes we also support the Seacare Authority in the delivery of its statutory functions. Macro Social Worker | Psychosocial Safety | Leadership

Thank you to Safe Work Australia, The Fair Work Ombudsman & RMIT University for facilitating an event this week on the role of worker consultation in contributing to safe, fair and healthy workplaces. It’s always a pleasure to hear from industry experts and engage in multidisciplinary discussions. I found exploring the connection between industrial relations theory and work health and safety particularly intriguing! Pictured with me are my Comcare colleagues, Michael Dubravac & Ngaire A. 🙂 #safework

  • Low job control has been linked to poor mental health including depression and anxiety but less is known about the effects of prolonged exposure to low job control. A review of data from 5,054 employed Australian men from 2013 to 2021 found a strong link between low job control and major depression symptoms. Intermittent and persistent low job control were associated with an increased risk of major depression symptoms by 32% and 103% respectively. Increasing job control can be a protective factor against major depression. • National Asbestos Awareness Week (25 November – 1 December 2024) reminds Australians about the importance of living and working safely with asbestos. Are there planned service, maintenance, refurbishment or demolition work at your workplace that involves a risk of asbestos exposure? If you are the person with management or control of the workplace, you must ensure that an asbestos register is prepared and kept at the workplace. You must also provide your asbestos register to workers, HSRs and any other PCBUs, contractors and tradespersons. Visit https://lnkd.in/gyZczpdu for more information.
