Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to move across South-East Queensland from Thursday 6th March, and we wish to advise that Communify's services will be impacted during this time. From Thursday 6th March until Monday 10th March, we will cease to provide all non-essential services, and all Communify centres and venues will be closed. However, our frontline service staff will still be contactable via phone during their normal operating hours to provide remote support for community members in need. Please click here for our full list of contact numbers: https://lnkd.in/eYSAFd-V We will continue to monitor the situation as we receive further weather updates. We urge you to stay safe, and to know that Communify is still here to support you.

The Way Back team had a visit from Alex, Tina, and Sue from Arafmi to chat about how we as carers can work together to support community members. Arafmi is a mental health carer support organisation for carers across Queensland, focused on providing mental health advocacy and community connection for carers. Together, we explored ways to collaborate in supporting carers, particularly those caring for someone in suicidal distress, and discussed opportunities to share knowledge, resources, and address service gaps. It was a valuable conversation, reinforcing the importance of working together to strengthen and expand support for carers in this space. There’s a lot we can learn from each other, and we’re looking forward to ongoing discussions on how we can enhance supports for carers. #communifyqld #arafmi #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthsupportservice #communitysupport #communityservices #communify #communifyqld #brisbanecommunity

Our Green Corner over at Ashgrove continues to go above and beyond rallying their community together to get a big job done! 💪🌳 Incredible volunteers, Susan Webster, Paul Worsnop, Peach Reid, and Johan Nydorf got to work building a shed over 3 working bees. This mighty task involved everyone's favourite (weeding) and path management. The team celebrated a successful job with Susan's tasty home brew and some pickled Bunya Nuts! ☺️ A special thank you goes to Brisbane City Council for the Cultivating Community Gardens Grant that supported this project. #communitygarden #teamvolunteer #ashgrovecommunitygarden #greencorner #communityprojects #brisbanecommunity #communify #communifyqld #communityservices #communitysupport #communitygrant #greenthumb

In our last volunteer spotlight, both Paul and Cynthia leave us with some food for thought around the meaningful impact volunteering has on their day-to-day life. While volunteers give their time and skills, they also gain better health, a sense of purpose, and emotional rewards. These benefits can greatly improve quality of life, showing that giving back is truly a win-win. So, how can you help Communify? Our food relief programs both at Bardon and Acacia Ridge needs some extra support. Acacia Ridge is also looking for some admin assistance and our transport team is looking for some extra helpers. If you've been waiting for the right time to volunteer, it's now! An official plaque presentation took place on February 3rd to honour the Australian Pensioner’s and Superannuants League QLD Inc (APSL). The ceremony recognised their long-standing commitment to the community for over 40 years. APSL had been the tenants of the Kurilpa Senior Citizen Centre since 1984 - 2024. Michael Holland, APSL president from Warwick, spent the day with us and graciously appreciated the recognition on behalf of the APSL Executive Committee. Our CEO, Karen Dare, attended the celebration, acknowledging their amazing work in providing services to the senior citizens of the West End community and the impact they have made. Communify recognises APSL's legacy and is proud to continue their services. #kurilpakitchen #over65s #celebration #40years #activeseniors #agedcare #agedcaresupport #agedcareservices #myagedcare #seniors #brisbanecommunity #communityservices #communitysupport #communify #communifyqld
