Part of our responsibilities as a Design and Construct PT contractor is to inspect and make sure the installation of our tendons is in line with the design intent of the engineer. Some of the items that we look at are the number of tendons, strands, their spacings, and their lengths. It's not rocket science... however, something that most other contractors miss is the straightness of the tendons. This may seem minor but can significantly affect the extension of the strands as well as the spacing at the other end, especially over long distances. During stressing, kinks in the tendon can cause the strands to overlap and reduce their elongation or, more significantly, cause strands to snap. At CES, not only do we make sure the design intent is adhered to, but we also take pride in the little things that can become big things. #PT #Posttensioning #Prideinthelittlethings #Construction #ConcreteEngineeringSolutions #Littlethingsbecomebigthings #Prideinourwork www.cessydney.com.au

CES have undertaken many complex strengthening works. One that stands out has been the installation of extensive steel structure strengthening requiring 1200mm deep drilling and epoxying into existing beams. 🚀 Project Completion: Silverwater Warehouse Upgrade🚀 We’re excited to share our latest success story at CES! Our team recently completed a significant upgrade on a 2000m² warehouse suspended slab that had suffered extensive cracking and was overloaded over time. 🔍 The Challenge: The existing slab was beyond repair with crack injections and CFRP, necessitating a more robust solution. 💡 Our Solution: Instead of repairing the old slab, we proposed the following: - Micropiling to strengthen the existing foundations - Column and drop panel jacketing to strengthen the existing columns - Construct a new Post Tensioned slab on top of the existing slab to create a sandwiched slab system rendering the old slab redundant and removing any need to demolish. 💰 Why It Matters: Our approach proved to be a cost-effective solution, eliminating the need for demolition and reducing lengthy construction timelines. A big thank you to our client for trusting us with this critical upgrade. We’re proud to deliver results that enhance operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness! #Adaptivereuse #Buildbetter #Remedial #ConcreteEngineeringSolutions #CES #Engineering #Construction #ProjectCompletion #WarehouseUpgrade #Innovation #ClientSuccess #CES

What are Truncations? Truncation means to shorten or to make something quicker, however in construction, it refers to the act of pouring an epoxy-based plug to anchor a Post-Tensioned tendon in another location along its length. It's typically done when a tendon has either been inadvertently cut or the slab is required to be partially demolished. Whether or not a tendon is fully grouted should NEVER be assumed to be anchored in to the slab. So when a trade accidentally penetrates through a PT tendon (even if it's a single strand) the engineer needs to be notified to determine if any strengthening or propping is required, and secondly, it should be truncated to ensure the strand does not release and is protected from corrosion. The PTIA (Post Tensioned Institute of Australia) provides a detailed procedure of how to undertake truncations and should be used as a guide to undertake the works once an engineer has provided approval to proceed. WHAT IS CFRP? CFRP stands for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer and it has been described as the wonder material among engineers and material scientists. It is an extremely strong material developed from natural carbon fibers to reinforce, strengthen or repair buildings which have been damaged. The fibers are in a matrix with epoxy resin formed into strips, rods or wraps and vary in strength and flexibility. Strengthening materials made from carbon fibers are extremely thin, lightweight, and versatile, which means they can be a cost-effective way of increasing the existing capacity of the structure. WHEN WOULD YOU USE CFRP? · CFRP can be used when there are more loads on the structural element than previously designed. · There is a change of use of the structure · The structure has been damaged from either natural disasters, explosions or the like ADVANTAGES · High strength to weight ratio · Unobtrusive – because it is so thin it can be either directly stuck on the concrete or embedded into a rebate so it sits flush. · Disruption is minimal as it can be installed very quickly So the advantages are plentiful, but what are the disadvantages? DISADVANTAGES · Well It conducts electricity and heat so if it will be working around these elements, careful consideration on how to mitigate these effects is to be had. · They are more expensive than other structural building materials used for the same purpose but because they tend to be much lighter, they require less manpower to install. Feel free to contact us at CES for expert advice on whether CFRP is right for your project. CONCRETE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS 0497 128 282 cessydney.com.au
