Having fun at the back end of a Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) senior executives' dinner in Melbourne (19 Sept) sponsored by OneStop. It's amazing how you can solve the problems and "challenges" of container logistics over some good food, drinks and good company ... and did I mention drinks??!! Apologies for those not in the image, but I keep forgetting to take photos at the beginning of these events when the attendees are relatively contained!! Thanks again to our strong Alliance Partner, OneStop., for helping to make it happen. There really was goodwill in the room!! Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA), in collaboration with Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA), Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA), the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and CoRsafe are hosting a series of Best Practice Seminars across Australia to bring together container logistics stakeholders to discuss: - Latest advice, updates & resources on safe container loading, unloading & transport practices; and - Commercial & safety dangers of poorly packed, overloaded or unrestrained cargoes inside shipping containers. Unbalanced, poorly packed or unrestrained or mis-declared containerised cargoes not only increase vessel and land transport safety risks but have the potential to be commercially very costly if the cargo is damaged or contributes to a safety incident. All parties in the logistics chain have legal obligations to ensure the safe loading, cargo restraint, transport & unloading of shipping containers, and to ensure accurate gross weight declarations. In collaboration with a Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative administered by the NHVR on behalf of the Commonwealth Government, we've assembled an outstanding set of expert speakers aimed at helping Importers & Exporters, Freight Forwarders and others to meet their safety obligations. Come along to one of the Seminars at a location near you! Don't miss out ... register today!! https://lnkd.in/gF4pUsfe

Recent increases in landside port charges at Australian container ports prompt an important question for public policy makers and industry stakeholders: is port productivity improving as a result of new charges and capital investment by stevedores? NineSquared’s article “Container Port Productivity Opportunities for decision makers” considers the various ways in which container port productivity can be measured, what recent data tells us about the performance of Australian ports and issues that are being considered by policy makers. Patrick Brisbane Terminal has advised that from 0700hr this Tuesday, 27 August it will implement Individual Lane Allocation for truck drivers entering the Terminal. Once called up from the Truck Marshalling Area (TMA), truck drivers will drive to the Truck Grid Yard Entry Point (YEP) where they will receive a new CHIT with the details of the lane (grid) they must attend. Patrick cites the benefits of this initiative as including: - more truck grids being converted to Automated Truck Handling (ATH) to improve import/dual loading capabilities. - Side-loaders will now be handled in the ATH truck grids. - Increased export throughput capacity. - Addressing driver practices in grid choice that in the past have slowed down truck servicing times. CTAA Alliance companies will be monitoring the implementation of this initiative and will provide feedback to Patrick through its Landside Efficiency Group engagement with road carriers. Another successful CTAA Port Awareness Workshop, this time on the Port of Brisbane today (21 August) for the import & export customers and staff from S.A.L. Global Logistics Pty Ltd The Director of S.A.L. Global Logistics, Roger Hageman, is to be applauded for his vision to ensure that his customers have the opportunity to experience the practical aspects of container logistics operations first-hand. It certainly gives customers a greater understanding about why their container might be delayed, why additional costs might apply, and the behavioural "drivers" of stakeholders in the chain!! Thanks again too for the time & effort taken by stakeholders in the chain to showcase their facilities to the Workshop Group - Tim Fagan and Kayla Rongonui at ACFS eDepot (empty container park, ACFS Port Logistics); Troy Angove at Arrow Transport Logistics & Quarantine Services and Matt Hollamby from Patrick Terminals. All are proud to show people what they do and to promote the positive aspects of container logistics chain operations.

The movement of several container vessels into and out of the Port of Fremantle will be impacted as a result of current protected industrial action by vessel traffic services officers and small craft personnel from today (Sunday, 18 August) to 0530hr Tuesday, 20 August. The Fremantle Ports' Harbour Master has issued an Instruction that the “Fremantle Port Authority will not be providing VTS service to vessels during the period from 18 August 2024 / 0530 hours until 20 August 2024 / 0530 hours.” One container vessel is alongside at Fremantle, and at least three container vessels are due to arrive during the protected industrial action period. Berthing delays seem inevitable. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gTM4c_Xt
