COX is a multidisciplinary practice with studios in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Auckland.

About us

COX acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waters of Australia. Our practice is built around designers that collaborate with clients, stakeholders and communities. We are By the Many, For the Many. COX seeks to do more with less, tapping into resourceful Australian culture to build value through ingenuity. We strive for quality through our beliefs in equality and opportunity. We embed culture in our designs, taking time to listen and understand cultural context and social impacts. We continuously seek the brightest minds to innovate design, process, and typology. We welcome collaboration, from both traditional and disruptive sources, should it have the potential to contribute to better design. Our history in Australian architecture began with the transformative Tocal Agricultural College in New South Wales. Epitomising the renowned Sydney School, the project had a deep and sensitive understanding of context and place, blended with honest and expressive structure and craft. This has informed the work of COX since. This history has established key principles we continue to prioritise today. One being the planning of cities and design of buildings that are adaptable to change – cultural, social, technological, and economic. The other is the creation of sustainable spaces – environmental strategies that are embedded, rather than added, to our designs. Today we work across Australasia and the globe on projects of international significance. Our team brings experience and enthusiasm to every new project and client. Our projects demonstrate a dedication to research as well as an ability to work with clients to deliver successful design solutions on time and budget. What we bring to our work transcends design. Our innovative technology and structural design solutions place emphasis and value on the design of core elements. Our structures designed as destinations to bring people together to share experiences that are unique to their time and place

Can one design detail shape the architectural language of a neighbourhood? For our newest residential project, we’ve started with brickwork – creating a façade that brings warmth, character and a sense of craftsmanship to the new On Hills Central precinct in Rouse Hill. The intricate brick detailing, developed in partnership with Brickworks, reflects a commitment to materiality and precision that’s rarely seen at this scale. Redefining urban living in the area, On Hills Central balances functionality with aesthetics, embedded in community and place. We’re proud to continue shaping Rouse Hill's transformation into a vibrant, walkable and connected neighbourhood, building on our legacy of projects in the area including the Rouse Hill Town Centre master plan. • Australian Design Review's #30UNDER30 Interior and Product Designers cohort for 2024/2025 has been revealed, and congratulations are in order for COX’s Ashleigh Sullivan and Margot Lapalus, who have made the final list. A showcase of the industry’s next generation of talent, the program recognises emerging designers shaping the future of interiors, product design, and the built environment. Ashleigh, a Brisbane-based designer, works at the intersection of interior space, systems, and people—advocating for holistic, connected outcomes. Margot, an associate at COX, is eager to use this opportunity to further develop her leadership skills and contribute to meaningful design discourse. Both will join the other 28 finalists for a high-performance leadership and creative retreat, where they’ll engage with mentors and peers to refine their craft and expand their impact. We’d also like to congratulate Chloe Leuenberger who made the program’s prestigious shortlist—a fantastic achievement!

  • With the venues now locked in for the #2027RugbyWorldCup, excitement is building for what promises to be the tournament’s most expansive edition yet. From October 1 to November 12, 24 teams will battle it out in some of Australia’s most iconic stadiums—where architecture and sport unite to create unforgettable moments. Of the nine venues unveiled, COX played a role in designing six, ranging from purpose-built rectangular stadiums to adaptable multi-sport arenas. These are Allianz Stadium, Adelaide Oval, AAMI Park, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Optus Stadium, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The tournament marks a defining chapter in Australia’s “golden decade” of rugby. With over 250,000 international visitors expected and an economic impact surpassing $2 billion, the World Cup cements Australia’s reputation as a premier sporting host. Positioned between this year’s British and Irish Lions tour, the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup, and the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, the tournament showcases Australia’s ability to design and deliver exceptional sporting experiences—where stadiums are more than venues; but hosts of history. • The Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) at the University of Wollongong embodies biophilic design by seamlessly integrating nature with the built environment to enhance well-being. Framed vistas, diverse textures, and sensory elements—touch, scent, and sight—create a restorative space that fosters creativity and collaboration.
