What is an artificial reef? 🤔 Artificial reefs are man-made structures placed in bodies of water to establish marine habitats. These structures can be purpose-built to be reefs or they can be shipwrecks that have been intentionally or naturally sunk. ⚓ Over time, nature takes its course and these artificial reefs become a variety of habitats, sustaining a diversity of marine species 🐠. They attract and sustain marine life by providing protection from predators, shelter from ocean currents, breeding opportunities and a supply of rich food sources. Some also allow for recreational fishing opportunities within the marine parks within regulations. 🎣 There are currently eight artificial reefs in Moreton Bay Marine Park, five artificial reefs in Great Sandy Marine Park and two wrecks off Hervey Bay and the Sunshine Coast. I'm excited to announce I'm starting a new job... as a Citizen Scientist. 🧑🔬 Citizen science taps into the power of people from all walks of life, uniting a curious community eager to make a difference. When citizens become scientists, they embark on a journey of discovery, contributing to meaningful research and fostering a greater understanding of our world. ✍️ By participating, you help to expand the reach of scientific studies, increase data collection, and enrich the diversity of perspectives in research. 🐨 Whether you're monitoring local wildlife populations, reporting weather occurrences, or contributing to a global pollution database, each data point helps to build a clearer picture of our planet's health. Ready to make a difference? Look for citizen science projects in your area or online that resonate with your passions. No contribution is too small, and every discovery begins with the spirit of curiosity and the power of participation. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eAziZPT #QueenslandScience
