Thanks to everyone who made last week's DEA Decompression Sessions such a success. As tender season wrapped up so recently, instead of our November Leaders' Forum events, this time we opted for some smaller, informal gatherings with some short presentations and interviews with some DEA luminaries from our Hall of Fame. Warmest thanks to Dr Jenny Crosbie and Lucy Macali, Vivienne Riches and #GeoffWaghorn for sharing the wisdom of their experiences. Thanks also to our terrific sponsors Aon, Prime Super, Prospert , and ReadyTech and to our Fundamentals partner genU Training. #DisabilityEmploymentServices #DisabilityEmployment #DES #SDEP #careers #careerdevelopment #livedexperience #DEA #DisabilityEmploymentAustralia #DESproviders #TenderSeason #decompression #DecompressionSession #DEAHallOfFame #HallOfFame #skills #training #capability #ReadyForReform #disability #employment #NDIS #EnterANewEra #Aon #PrimeSuper #Prospert #ReadyTech #genUTraining

Very well put by Peter. Let’s see today as a call to action and make inclusion unremarkable, an everyday feature of life. It benefits everyone!
Every year, the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD) rolls around too much fanfare. We can do better and make it every day! #idpwd #cderp #cderpcollege #ndis #drpetersmith #des #ade #supportedemployment #intellectualdisability #asd #workfirst

🌍 Today marks International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), and at Australian Disability Network, we're proud to support #IDPWD2024 by championing the removal of unintentional barriers in the workplace with #ChooseInclusion 📽️ We released "It's Not Hard to be Inclusive", a humorous and thought-provoking short film by Australian Disability Network for IDPwD 2024. It highlights the social model of disability, showing how societal barriers, not individual conditions, create disability. Watch the full short film for more insights: https://lnkd.in/gs5m44ZT (Audio description version available) 🗒️ Leading up to IDPwD we released weekly resources that focus on key areas of business and how organisations can #RemoveBarriers. Check out our website: https://lnkd.in/gcShiDc7 💜 While it's fantastic to dedicate a day to recognise the 5.5 million Australians with disability, let's remember that inclusivity is not a one-time event but a continuous commitment. Every day is an opportunity to embrace #diversity, create #accessible spaces, and foster an #inclusive mindset. 💬 Join the IDPwD conversation online or in your community to challenge perceptions, break down barriers, and encourage a more diverse and inclusive Australia. Happy International Day of People with Disability! #IDPwD24 #AusDN #LinkedInNewsAustralia

This may be the punniest success story we've seen and we don't say neigh to it! Congratulations to Stephen, Bribie Island Road Saddle Club, and to the team at EPIC Assist who saddled Stephen with stable employment and so mane-y puns. #EPICAssist #InclusionMatters #DisabilityEmploymentServices #DisabilityEmployment #DES #SDEP #careers #careerdevelopment #livedexperience #DEA #DisabilityEmploymentAustralia #SuccessStory #DESSuccessStory #DESproviders #respect #skills #training #capability #ReadyForReform #disability #employment #NDIS
Nothing calms the nerves like getting back to nature. When the stresses with city or suburban life seem a little too much, a change of scenery can be just what the doctor ordered. For those local to the Caboolture area, Bribie Island Road Saddle Club might be that breath of fresh air you’re looking for 🐴 It’s a place where horse riders are inspired to improve their skills and confidence in themselves. It turns out that the confidence-building ethos boasted by the saddle club isn’t just limited to its customer base. Meet Stephen, one of the recent farmhand hires at Bribie Island Saddle Club. Stephen had seen just how good of a community the saddle club had fostered for itself and wanted to be a part of that. That was easier said than done however, Stephen hadn’t been employed in a long time, so the whole process felt almost alien to him. “It was my first job interview in decades. I was very nervous,” Stephen confessed. Despite his fears, Stephen knew he didn’t need to go about the application alone. He had an entire team of experts backing him every step of the way. ✨We’re delighted to welcome Ash Bates to MatchWorks, as Co-Facilitator for the Get Set for Work program in Queensland. When Ash first met the team at MatchWorks, the Disability Employment Services participant was unsure how to navigate his life and desire for a career while managing his health. After being connected to a pilot program for neurodivergent job seekers, Ash was able to build new connections, life skills, and confidence while setting employment goals. “I appreciated the constant communication around how to navigate workplace barriers and what challenges can be solved through self-advocacy and leaning on external supports,” Ash said. Ash is now working with MatchWorks to draw on his own experience to support other neurodivergent job seekers. “I will be teaching and encouraging neurodivergent youth and helping them build these same skills and find themselves and the building blocks for their ideal career pathways and futures.” Read more about Ash’s employment journey https://bit.ly/4dwYkHM Sue Osman Veronica Killick Nikki Noack Emily Markham Louise Sheehy #NeurodivergentEmployment #MatchWorks #InclusionMatters #DisabilityEmploymentServices
