  • You might have heard one of our food waste warriors, Sam Oakden, on the radio this week. 📻 Sam's been chatting all things #australianfoodpact and the impact it's having on reducing Australia's food waste, since the release of our 2024 Impact Report on Monday. Just talking and raising awareness about food waste - Amazing. But showing the impact our Australian Food Pact, The Great Unwaste campaign and innovative research projects are having on this issue - Priceless. In case you missed it, here's Sam having a chat with Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)'s Brooke Young this morning.

  • We are thrilled to share the 2024 Australian Food Pact Impact Report, showcasing the incredible progress made by our Signatories – food businesses who have committed to taking action in reducing food waste and driving sustainability - across Australia’s food system over the past 3 years. Here’s a snapshot of our biggest wins: ✅ A 13% reduction in food waste (that’s16,000 tonnes) in food waste compared to 2022 ✅ 982,000 tonnes of repurposed food: the amount of 'food not sold' that has been repurposed in meaningful ways – this includes redistribution to food rescue charities for those in need, and upcycling food into innovative products like vegetable powders  ✅ $57 Million - the amount Signatories saved by reducing food waste in 2024 alone    ✅ 254 million meals – the amount of meals that have been donated to food rescue organisations by Signatories since 2022 ✅  505,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions have been saved since 2022 - the equivalent of taking 210,000 cars off the road for a year ✅ 100% of Signatories aligned with the Food Waste Hierarchy, reflecting a major shift from waste management to waste prevention! This report is a testament to the hard work, collaboration, and innovation from Australian Food Pact Signatories – with the support of our team.  Together, we're not just reducing food waste—we're transforming the way food is handled across the supply chain.  Read the full report here:  https://lnkd.in/gS8yt9gA Sam Oakden Melissa Smith Darci Buckerfield Nick Cork Emil Kroell Sarah Hughes Steve Lapidge Jonathan Middis Mandy Hall Melanie Hand

  • SSS Strawberries, one of Australia’s largest strawberry growers, has turned 80% of produce that would have gone to landfill into valuable (and delicious) value-added products, thanks to a project with End Food Waste Australia and the Department of Primary Industries (Queensland). "End Food Waste Australia CRC and the Queensland Department of Primary Industries helped facilitate an extremely straightforward process of research and development, product, and consumer testing to create acceptable products for market and consumer consumption. We were able to expand this to include chocolate and yoghurt covered products and the consumer testing aspect also helped to improve current products and processing efficiencies, " said Gina Dang, CEO, SSS Strawberries 🍓Read more about this berry ambitious project and how we are helping tackle food waste - from paddock to plate - here: https://lnkd.in/g-h89XiQ

CEO at End Food Waste Australia

After eight incredible years, first as the Fight Food Waste CRC bid leader, then company Founder and CEO, I have made the difficult decision to step down from the End Food Waste Australia CEO role over the coming months. The Board is keen to retain my experience and knowledge and have invited me to join the Board once a new CEO has been appointed. As well, I hope to continue to represent the organisation and Australia as our Champion 12.3 Ambassador in my Non-Executive Director capacity. It has been an honour and a privilege to lead End Food Waste Australia and work alongside such talented and passionate Board, delivery team members and participants. As the organisation embarks on its next growth phase, I am excited to watch its continued success and impact under new leadership. For me, this transition marks an opportunity to explore the next challenge in my career.
