Australia's #distribution networks can support a faster rollout of EV chargers on existing power poles - instantly offering more flexible charging solutions for customers and helping those who may not be able to charge at home. It's a cost effective solution to get the #grid doing more for customers now and into the future. It is time to better use the infrastructure we already have!💡 https://lnkd.in/gBsARXqi #EV #netzero Dominique van den Berg Dominic Adams Dor Son Tan Ausgrid Endeavour Energy (NSW) Essential Energy CitiPower and Powercor Energy Queensland Australian Associated Press (AAP)

About us
Energy Networks Australia is the national body representing electricity transmission and distribution and gas distribution businesses throughout Australia. Our members provide energy to virtually every household and business in the country. We provide governments, policy-makers and the community with a single point of reference for major energy network issues in Australia. We focus on providing advice and solutions to issues such as national and state government policy and regulatory environments under which energy networks operate, key technical issues such as network safety and security of supply, reliability and power quality, and the management of peak energy demand and energy efficiency.

What a year it’s been! As we wind down 2024, we’re filled with gratitude for the incredible work and dedication of our members and partners. Together, we’ve navigated a complex energy landscape, achieved significant progress, and helped position the networks industry in readiness for what’s ahead. We wish all our members and collaborators a very happy and safe holiday period. We look forward to working with you again in 2025. Until then, let’s have a quick look back at the year that was. https://lnkd.in/gyMZC4Mp #energynetworks #energytransition #2024 #netzero

The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has given a green light to the smart meter rollout, seeking universal uptake across the NEM by 2030 🚦 💡 Smart meters modernise the energy grid, improve network planning, and expand the range of data that is available. The AEMC recently published its Final Determination on the Accelerating smart meter deployment rule change, which follows its review on the regulatory framework for metering services that began in 2020, signifying the cumulation of four years of work and extensive consultation. ENA's Victoria Baikie unpacks this decision: https://lnkd.in/gwJqkDhM #smartmeters #energyregulation #energynetworks #energytransition

Earlier this week, we hosted our Parliamentary Reception in Canberra, welcoming The Hon Chris Bowen MP, Members of Parliament, ENA Members, and other guests from across the industry. Guests heard from Minister Bowen and ENA CEO Dominique van den Berg, connected with peers, and shared insights on the latest in the energy and networks sector. Thank you to everyone who attended, navigating a warm but beautiful Canberra evening. #ParliamentHouse #EnergyNetworks #EnergyTransition

We applaud the Commonwealth Government and Climate Change Authority for their commitment to maximising the role of the nation’s electricity distribution networks in delivering new, affordable and reliable energy. Proposals to unlock the existing local grid and leverage commercial and industrial premises align with recommendations in our report: 'The time Is now: Getting smarter with the grid', released in August. The recommendations were contained in the Annual Progress Report released yesterday by the Climate Change Authority – and given in principle support by Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen. Coordinating our consumer energy resources (CER) is critical to using our energy system more efficiently and keeping customer costs down. But coordination requires communication with devices, and that communication needs to be cybersecure. We are teaming up with Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) to deliver a national public key infrastructure (PKI) technology for the Australian energy sector that will help secure communications with CER. Last night’s panel session confirmed that Distribution REZs most certainly are not an oxymoron and - if not the new normal - are absolutely here to stay! There is no doubt that the gap in achieving our renewable energy targets will be closed with a significant contribution from Distribution REZs. Several key actions are necessary to overcome the significant coordination challenges, particularly in social, technical, legal, and economic domains; between networks, renewable energy developers, rule/law makers and other market/jurisdictional planning and authorisation bodies, to realise the Distribution REZ benefits of achieving a secure and renewable future at pace, and in the most affordable manner. We'd like to thank all our speakers for an honest and insightful discussion. During its annual Oktoberfest celebration, Germany is one of the world’s leading consumers of pork knuckles and beer. Similarly, with its ambitious hydrogen targets, Germany is likely to become one of the world’s largest consumers of hydrogen. ENA's Head of Renewable Gas Dennis Van Puyvelde takes a look at some recent developments. #hydrogen #renewablegas #europeanenergy #energytransition https://lnkd.in/guTTXYdi

How does the Australian electricity sector stack up against the rest of the world? 🌏💡 We recently attended the International Electricity Summit, alongside the Australian Energy Council. Held every 18 months, the Summit brings together leaders from across the globe to share updates on energy markets around the world and the opportunities and challenges being faced as the world collectively transitions to net zero emissions. CEOs Dominique van den Berg and Louisa Kinnear share more about what they heard and what that means for Australia. https://lnkd.in/g98U86bk #internationalelectricitysummit #energynetworks #energytransition #netzero #electricity
