NEWS 💡: Research reveals the hidden costs of the Victorian Government’s push for mandatory electrification, warning of significant increases in household energy bills and added pressure on the state’s electricity generation system if enacted too early. Forced electrification could cost Victorian households an extra $22 billion over the next 20 years. ENA CEO Dominique van den Berg said: “If taken now, the Government’s chosen path risks placing undue financial strain on Victorian families. A rushed transition to electrification, without sufficient renewable energy and storage capacity, will lead to higher electricity prices for everyone”. About us
Energy Networks Australia is the national body representing electricity transmission and distribution and gas distribution businesses throughout Australia. Our members provide energy to virtually every household and business in the country. We provide governments, policy-makers and the community with a single point of reference for major energy network issues in Australia. We focus on providing advice and solutions to issues such as national and state government policy and regulatory environments under which energy networks operate, key technical issues such as network safety and security of supply, reliability and power quality, and the management of peak energy demand and energy efficiency.

🔋 New technical guideline: battery energy storage systems (BESS) 🔋 These systems are used to store energy and provide a range of services to the electricity grid such as managing demand, maintaining network stability, and improving grid reliability. It’s therefore critical that the industry builds battery storage in a consistent, cost-effective and safe manner. Australia's #distribution networks can support a faster rollout of EV chargers on existing power poles - instantly offering more flexible charging solutions for customers and helping those who may not be able to charge at home. It's a cost effective solution to get the #grid doing more for customers now and into the future. It is time to better use the infrastructure we already have!💡 https://lnkd.in/gBsARXqi #EV #netzero Dominique van den Berg Dominic Adams Dor Son Tan Ausgrid Endeavour Energy (NSW) Essential Energy CitiPower and Powercor Energy Queensland Australian Associated Press (AAP)

The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has given a green light to the smart meter rollout, seeking universal uptake across the NEM by 2030 🚦 💡 Smart meters modernise the energy grid, improve network planning, and expand the range of data that is available. The AEMC recently published its Final Determination on the Accelerating smart meter deployment rule change, which follows its review on the regulatory framework for metering services that began in 2020, signifying the cumulation of four years of work and extensive consultation. ENA's Victoria Baikie unpacks this decision: https://lnkd.in/gwJqkDhM #smartmeters #energyregulation #energynetworks #energytransition

We applaud the Commonwealth Government and Climate Change Authority for their commitment to maximising the role of the nation’s electricity distribution networks in delivering new, affordable and reliable energy. Proposals to unlock the existing local grid and leverage commercial and industrial premises align with recommendations in our report: 'The time Is now: Getting smarter with the grid', released in August. The recommendations were contained in the Annual Progress Report released yesterday by the Climate Change Authority – and given in principle support by Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen. Coordinating our consumer energy resources (CER) is critical to using our energy system more efficiently and keeping customer costs down. But coordination requires communication with devices, and that communication needs to be cybersecure. We are teaming up with Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) to deliver a national public key infrastructure (PKI) technology for the Australian energy sector that will help secure communications with CER.
