Their innovative idea brings affordable tutoring to underserved communities through a bus that travels around lower-income neighbourhoods. Taking out the Showcase Runner Up spot was Bass Buster Lures from Canterbury College, who are creating lead-free fishing lures to end oceanic lead pollution, promoting a healthy marine environment without compromising quality. Bass Buster Lures also took out the coveted People’s Vote, with hundreds of votes cast by the audience at The Triffid on the night. For the first time in 2024, a number of other teams were also recognised in special categories including Scent of Australia (Brigidine College Indooroopilly) who picked up the Showcase Sustainability Award 2024, NerFly (Queensland Academies Health Sciences Campus (qahsgc)) who collected the Showcase Innovation Award 2024 and Bright Knights (Ferny Grove State High School) who took home the Showcase Community Impact Award 2024. Introducing the Future Anything National Grand Final Educator Award Winners! 2024 was a record year for Future Anything’s Activate in-curriculum school entrepreneurship program with 7500+ students, 300+ teachers and almost 80 schools across Australia and New Zealand bending the future, one youth-led idea at a time. Reflecting on the Awards, Future Anything’s Dan Dempsey said on the night, “Teachers in schools are the backbone of our Activate program. They are doing incredible work to embed the program... making it a fundamental part the learning their students embark on. Without them, our young people would not have the support they need unleash their incredible passion and potential.” Allow us to introduce you to them! Trailblazer 2024: This award recognises an outstanding first-year teacher of Future Anything’s Activate in-curriculum entrepreneurship program. Congratulations Mary Roberts from St Joseph’s School, Stanthorpe (QLD)! Educator of the Year 2024: This award recognised an experienced Future Anything educator, one who not only ‘thinks like an entrepreneur’ in their own approach to teaching and learning, but has also built an enterprising culture in their students, staff and school community. Congratulations Rachel Noonan from Loreto Kirribilli (NSW)! Team of the Year 2024: This award recognises teams of outstanding Future Anything educators. Ferny Grove State High School (QLD) took home the award this year, against very stiff competition! Thank you to every teacher and every school that adopted the Activate program this year. Introducing the Future Anything National Grand Final Pitch Winner: Alexander, Founder of E-Scooter trailers from Brisbane South State Secondary College! Built using carbon fibre, the patented Carbon Cart increases safety by reducing crashes from overloaded e-scooters, helping riders transport groceries and other goods safely and easily. Congratulating Alexander on his win, judge Dinesh commented “You’ve considered so many different factors, and you’ve got a plan, and I think this is something that could really work. I loved it!” Judge Chrisanthi Demos added “E-Scooter Trailers is an amazing idea with incredible thought that’s gone into it. And it was an incredible pitch too. The research and work that Alexander had done to put together a business plan and costings, combined with a bit of sass, are really important parts of entrepreneurialism.” Read more about Alexander and our Runners Up Safe Surf and Highly Commended Kikjabs in our website.

It’s World Social Enterprise Day and we thought it was the perfect opportunity to highlight seven years of Future Anything Grand Final Pitch Winners! The Activate program puts creativity and innovation in the spotlight. It assures us that the future is in good hands as new, optimistic and clear-eyed generations craft the solutions to the world’s most complex problems. Don’t believe us? Check out these young people: In 2018 we saw Tanika, whose social enterprise Shielded Socks were white above the cut of the shoe, but patterned beneath, so she couldn’t get in trouble for wearing non-uniform socks to school. The metaphor? You never know what’s going on for someone below the surface. Profits from the sales of these socks went to Kids Helpline. In 2019, three young Polynesian students launched Culturehood. Noticing there was a spike in domestic violence figures in their community, they worked with an artist to design their own hoodies, with profits supporting survivors of domestic violence. In 2020 we met Aqua Shield, who identified that the shark nets off their coast kill more sea life than they were stopping sharks! They took the technology that exists in wristbands for surfers to repel sharks, and retrofitted them on flotation devices. In 2021, Chloe partnered with farmers and sustainability organisations to sell wheat packs. She’s been sewing them for her mum, who worked night shifts at the hospital, since she was just 11 years old. She’s now in Year 12 and she’s started her own Youngpreneur markets in Moreton Bay. In 2022, Eco Beds were formed out of a frustration that these students’ dogs kept eating their dog beds. After researching sustainable, indestructible materials, they came across Kevlar, used in bulletproof vests. They used Kevlar and turned it into sturdy and comfortable dog beds. In 2023 our winners realised, through their own personal experiences, that if you were a person with disability or accessibility challenges, you couldn’t be certified to administer first aid. So, they created the world’s first First Aid Certification for people with accessibility challenges. And this year, our winners, E-scooter Trailers, increases safety by reducing crashes from overloaded e-scooters by using carbon fibre, helping riders transport groceries and other goods safely and easily. We can’t wait to see the solutions students will work on next year. Get in touch if you want to bring Activate to your school! https://lnkd.in/e9B9xJxN
