FVREE exists to support victim survivors and disrupt the cycle of family violence.

About us

FVREE, formerly EDVOS is a leading specialist family violence service in the eastern area of Victoria, Australia. Our work is focused across seven Local Government Areas including Boroondara, Manningham, Whitehorse, Monash, Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges. Some of our training, education and primary prevention programs are national. FVREE is predominantly funded to work with women and children. It is recognised that being female is the biggest risk factor for experiencing family violence. FVREE acknowledges that family violence can take many forms such as intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, carer abuse, parental abuse and sibling abuse. Our specialist family violence response services are mostly directed towards women, including women from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities, children, pets and other animals, who are responding to any form of family violence. FVREE is committed to assisting all people, regardless of ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age and ability within our community and can also provide access to other family violence services that are most suitable to the individual’s unique needs and goals. National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. This years theme, 'Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud' celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced. #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek #BlakLoudProud

The rates of family violence are nothing short of alarming. Women, children, individuals and families from all walks of life are in crisis. You can help! Our Melbourne services go beyond crisis support. Working to support people including children therapeutically is just one of our programs. We also invest in primary prevention and early intervention because we know we can end this violence in our lifetime. We can’t do it alone. Donate now. https://lnkd.in/gtCcgXai

We've launched our first Reconciliation Action Plan. Joined by partners, community and artist Auntie Heather Kennedy we celebrated bringing our first Reflect RAP to life. "Reconciliation is an ongoing learning journey for all of us. It’s important because we are all still learning about our own history, even Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, we are learning new ways to learn about and connect with culture. It’s important we go on this journey together.” — Julie Coombes, proud Wurundjeri-Wilam woman, Co-Chair of our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, Aboriginal Liaison Officer and Specialist Family Violence Advocate in the Support and Recovery Team. We were joined by Djirri Djirri women's dance group who led us in a cultural dance workshop and shared stories with us. Thank you to everyone who was able to join. “The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.” www.reconciliation.org.au But what does it mean, Now More Than Ever? Looking back at the history of Australia’s policies, of First Nations Peoples activism for equality, recognition and land rights - it’s been up and down. It’s been slow hard-fought progress, divisive discourse and in the wake of the referendum result many First Nations Peoples and Communities as well as non-indigenous people are asking What Now? We believe in Reconciliation. We are committed to truth and treaty. We will continue to call out, speak up, stand up and stand alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, Now More Than Ever. We’ve just launched our first Reconciliation Action Plan and Now More Than Ever, it isn’t just words on a page, it’s a commitment to real and meaningful change. Our contribution to truth telling and local healing. It starts with us as individuals, as communities, as services, within systems and together we can achieve respect, connection, understanding and action.
