Recently we hosted a lunchtime learning session as part of our Circular Capabilities work at Westpac's city office, asking employees to identify correct waste disposal methods for common goods like coffee cups, batteries, and food waste. This activity and assessment increased employees' knowledge and decreased the amount of waste stream contamination. This morning was the first Local Impact event, hosted by Footscray Community Arts. The event celebrates the role of social enterprise in our community and economy - particularly in Melbourne’s west! The speakers this morning included Sarah Franklyn (the day’s amazing MC), Marnie Baker (former CEO of Bendigo Bank), Andy Moutray-Read (CEO of Inner West Community Enterprises), Sally Quinn (CEO and Founder of Green Collect) and Jen Riley (CEO of SmartyGrants - an enterprise of Our Community). All of the speakers this morning spoke with passion, commitment and expertise about the benefits of social enterprises and the different elements of what it takes for a particular enterprise to succeed and what we should be doing to support the ecosystem as a whole. Part of our work as leading circular economy practitioners is providing education on enabling a circular practice in our daily operations and sharing that with other organisations. As we know it, the circular economy proposes a shift towards a regenerative approach to reuse. With only a small shift in mindset (smarter product design, behaviour changes), we can see a decline in the number of resources deferring to landfill. We are still rejoicing in the success of our Green West Fest last Saturday! A huge thank you to everyone who came down for a boogie on the dancefloor, upcycled their own notebook, participated in games and joined in on the fun. The food stalls were fantastic, the fashion parade incredible and even the weather turned out for an incredible day. ☀ We can't wait to find more opportunities to connect and bring the community together. 🙌

Visited the Green West Fest hosted by Green Collect today with Michelle Brownstein and our youngest son. A brilliant sunny day to see the local community supporting this event held in Braybrook. Lots of local businesses doing great things in the circular economy. Highlight for me was seeing such a diverse crowd getting involved. Met some great people passionate about sustainability on a community level, blended juice on a bicycle, almost scored 120 points(not that easy) in the compact disc throwing competition (old frisbee skills coming into good use!) and purchased some delicious botanical tonic mixers for G&T’s All in walking distance to home. Thanks to Sally Quinn with the Green Collect team and all the stall holders for putting on a fantastic event for us to attend. #circularity #circulareconomy #sustainableliving #localcommunity
