Restoring Australia's unique landscapes and protecting biodiversity with science-led, on-ground solutions since 1982.

About us

We are the environmental not-for-profit that thinks bigger than the environment. We started conserving and restoring Australia’s landscapes in 1982 and we haven’t stopped since. At Greening Australia, we work on major programs that bring life to landscapes and restore balance to the natural environment in significant areas across Australia. Our hundreds of projects demonstrate conservation on a massive scale, covering millions of hectares of land and protecting thousands of native species. From the warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef to the cool island ark of Tasmania, we’re thinking big to tackle the challenges facing Australia’s unique and diverse landscapes in ways that work for communities, economies and nature.

  • 100,000 trees and counting! 🌱 We’ve hit an exciting milestone in the Rewilding Sydney program with 100,000 trees planted across Greater Sydney! Earlier this month, we added 8,000 trees to Yaralla Estate in Concord West, just 20 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, supporting the critically endangered Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest. We’re not stopping there, even more planting is planned for 2025 🌳 This project is in partnership with: NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, City of Canada Bay and Sydney Local Health District

  • A huge shoutout to Chris and Margot Shannon, this year’s recipients of Greening Australia’s Chris Jones Environmental Stewardship Award! From their first planting with us 26 years ago to today, Chris and Margot have been unwavering in their commitment to creating a sustainable and biodiverse grazing operation on their property in Bookham, NSW. Thank you so much for your dedication and commitment to environmental impact, we couldn’t do it without you! 🌱

It is absolutely fantastic to be partnering with Conscious Investment Management (CIM) and their investors to Rebuild Nature Together. The CIM team and investors fully support our vision to reconnect the landscape and work towards building a nature positive world. The first property at Caddigat Road is magical. It sits along the Murrumbidgee River in rolling hills and supports a range of different precious species. The highly skilled Greening Australia team have worked in this part of NSW for decades and they know how to do restoration work at scale in this challenging environment. I look forward to watching the property change as we work together restoring it.

Earlier this year, Conscious Investment Management (CIM) proudly announced a new partnership with environmental not-for-profit, Greening Australia, to deliver biodiverse environmental planting projects across Australia. CIM's first investment alongside Greening Australia was financing the purchase of a 755-hectare property in Southern NSW, known as ‘Caddigat Road,’ with plans to plant approximately 140,000 native trees and shrubs on the property in 2025. In October, CIM invited investors to visit the Caddigat Road property and meet the Greening Australia team. The below video gives an overview of the project and shows some of the incredible property that will be restored under of the Greening Australia and CIM partnership. Executive Director of Seeds at Greening Australia

A major focus for 2024 has been developing Nindethana’s national storage infrastructure, both to enhance customer service and to ensure better management of the scarce and valuable resource that is native seed.   Our seed storage capabilities in Canberra saw a significant milestone with the commissioning of a purpose-built seed facility, designed to improve seed preservation and handling efficiency.   As we look ahead to 2025, we are excited to build on this progress, continuing to expand our capacity and strengthen our role in supporting restoration and revegetation efforts nationwide. Look who was spotted out on the Bank Australia conservation reserve 👀🦎 The lace monitor, also known as the tree goanna is a biiiiiig lizard. Like we're talking can reach 2m long and weigh 14kg 🤯 What's super cool about them being spotted on the reserve is they often spend most of their lives in the same area and won't really move to another location unless they can actually see the next tree! So is great to see these lizards getting settled on the reserve 🌳 They're also listed as endangered in Victoria so our reserve in Western Victoria is providing crucial habitat for them in the area.
