🎉 Celebrating a Proud Moment for GreenSTEM Education 🎉 We’re thrilled to announce that our Founder and CEO, Daniel Edwards, was recognised with the prestigious Coach/Mentor Award at the FIRST LEGO League National Championships South last weekend! This event brought together the top 48 teams from across South Australia, Victoria, and Tasmania, showcasing the very best in STEM innovation, teamwork and creativity. Daniel is the head coach of the Montello Manatees and BCH STEM Unlimited teams, the 2 Burnie-based teams that qualified for the National Championships South amongst only 10 Tasmanian teams in total. This award reflects Daniel’s exceptional dedication to fostering STEM opportunities across Tasmania and the nation. Beyond coaching FLL teams like the Parklands Penguins, Montello Manatees, Montello Megalodons and BCH STEM Unlimited, Daniel has been instrumental in establishing and supporting many public-school-based teams across the NW Coast, ensuring that every young person has the chance to engage with FLL regardless of barriers. What made this recognition even more special was the nomination by BCH STEM Unlimited youth mentors Mia, Connor, and Mayson—also members of the Parklands Penguins and STEM Unlimited at Burnie Community House. True to his collaborative spirit, Daniel invited these amazing young leaders to the stage to share in the celebration and accept the trophy together, highlighting the profound impact of mentorship and teamwork. Their names will be added to the certificate, with this soon to be framed and proudly displayed at the Community House with a growing collection of FLL trophies and certificates! Daniel’s leadership and vision through GreenSTEM Education and Greenpower Australia continue to drive the growth of FIRST LEGO League and STEM education in our region. His passion for creating inclusive, life-changing opportunities for young people is an inspiration to us all. Congratulations, Daniel—this is a well-deserved honour, and we are so proud of your ongoing commitment to shaping the next generation of STEM innovators! #FLL #CoachMentorAward #STEMUnlimited #BurnieCommunityHouse #GreenSTEMEducation #GraciousProfessionalism #STEMLeadership #NationalChampionships FIRST Australia Department for Education, Children and Young People University of Tasmania BURNIE CITY COUNCIL Department of Industry, Science and Resources The LEGO Foundation

A big thank you to Dr Vanessa Pirotta for spending some time with my FIRST LEGO League teams at Taronga Zoo on Saturday. It was truly an honour to connect the Montello Manatees and BCH STEM Unlimited with such a passionate and influential role model during their FLL SUBMERGED season journey. The opportunity to bring a group of young Tasmanians (many leaving the state for the first time) to Sydney for this incredible experience was made even more special thanks to Vanessa's mentorship and support. Her genuine engagement with the teams—both online and in person—has not only helped refine their innovation projects but also shown them what is possible when passion meets purpose in STEM. Her influence will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on these students as they continue to grow in their STEM journeys. A huge thank you to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources for helping making connections such as this possible. These kinds of opportunities create profound impacts, inspiring young people to believe in themselves and explore what they can achieve. As someone who has experienced firsthand the power of initiatives like the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science, I cannot stress enough the importance of fostering these connections. It’s through collaborations like this that we can break down barriers and open doors for the next generation. Starting off Monday with a HUGE congratulations to the Montello Manatees from Tasmania and the Murrumbidgee manta rays from New South Wales. Over the weekend, both teams took part in the @first_legoleague held at Macquarie University Via @first_legoleague: FIRST® LEGO® League guides youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age. From Discover, to Explore, and then to Challenge, students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. The girls did all the work and were very receptive of my suggestions when it came to interpretation of what they created and how to make their work accessible. I’m blown away at this wonderful opportunity for all teams. Such a brilliant way to introduce the next generation into STEAM. And, a very special mention to those behind it all, a special nod to #PMPrize recipient Mr Daniel Edwards who helped bring the entire team of small and big kids from Tassie all the way to Sydney and to Ian Preston for connecting me with your fabulous team! A big congrats to Daniel who was also crowned coach/mentor of the year award 👏🏽 Seeing all teams grow and enjoy this very special experience is truly wonderful. Connecting with the girls online and meeting them in person was also very rewarding. I’m so very proud of ALL of the teams. The entire experience and journey is the reward and something to share in class today. Well done to all parents/guardians/support personnel who made this possible. I see you all in the first photo here. We acknowledge your greatness and assistance in helping these students achieve great things. Never stop learning, networking and making new friends! 🚨 Fundraising Update: We’re at $3,200—Let’s Keep Going! 🚨 Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we’ve raised $3,200 so far for our campaign to get the Montello Manatees and BCH STEM Unlimited FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams to Sydney for the National Championships South! 🎉 Our original target of $10,000 remains, and while the campaign was set to finish tomorrow, we’re extending it to ensure we can meet the travel costs for our amazing young changemakers and their accompanying parents/guardians. With flights costing over $400 each way, plus accommodation and other travel expenses, this opportunity wouldn’t be possible without your continued support. 💚 GreenSTEM Education is 100% committed to making this dream a reality for these incredible teams. This means that we’ll cover any shortfall ourselves, however this will limit the scale and impact of our other projects and plans moving forward until we can fully raise the funds. To ensure the equitable long-term success of FLL for all young Tasmanians, we’ll continue a FLL fundraising campaign into 2025 and beyond, dedicated to supporting public school teams with an ICSEA value of less than 1000, as well as community group-based teams that engage youth from underrepresented backgrounds. 📣 FLL Competition Alert! Help us grow FLL in Tasmania: - Like our page - Donate to our fundraiser (every $25 = 1 nomination/entry) - Nominate your school to join FLL (new or re-joining FLL - must not have participated in 2024, although these schools can transfer nominations to other schools in their cluster) by tagging them in the comments and sharing this post publicly. The winning school will receive over $1,000 in resources and support to start an FLL team in 2025! This competition will run until the start of the 2025 school year. That's not all, the nominator will win a GreenSTEM Education in their chosen colour combination from our brand-new merch line! Every donation helps create life-changing STEM opportunities for young people in Tasmania—thank you for being part of this journey with us! 💡 🔗 Donate at the attached link and nominate your school in the comments and your repost! #Fundraiser #STEMForAll #GreenSTEMEducation #FLL #NationalChampionships #Changemakers #STEMEducation https://lnkd.in/gPqNa6m6 FIRST Australia Macquarie University Department for Education, Children and Young People Department of State Growth (Tas) Tasmanian Society for Information Technology in Education BURNIE CITY COUNCIL Department of Industry, Science and Resources University of Tasmania Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing & Energy Council (TMEC) Regional Development Australia Tasmania Cradle Coast Authority
