A SUPER RESULT Superannuation will be paid on government-funded parental leave, announced Katy Gallagher today as part of the "Working for Women" national gender equality strategy. Grow My Money recognises the absence of super contributions on parental leave is one of the key contributors to the gender superannuation gap. It's part of the very reason Grow My Money was created. To have this resolved for International Women's Day is something to celebrate. Exactly two years ago, we started a Change.org petition on this very topic as the then-government had blocked yet another proposal on this front. You can read that here https://lnkd.in/g3Z8Nkuu From 1 July 2025, the 12% contribution will be paid on top of the weekly payment of $882.75 to eligible new parents. An estimated annual cost of $200million, paid to ~ 180,000 families, is small compared to the resulting deficit of $3.3bn in the superannuation pool. We must recognise the years of advocacy on this front by super funds such as HESTA and Aware Super, groups such as Women in Super and Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), as well as particular individuals such as Georgia Brumby and Eva Scheerlinck.
