  • Launching the Australian Youth Statement for CSW69! 📃 Young people are leading the way in shaping a more just and equal future. As part of our engagement with Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), GRTW is proud to release the Australian Youth Statement, developed in collaboration with YWAG after extensive consultation with young people across diverse communities. This statement amplifies the voices of youth, highlighting the urgent issues they face and putting forward clear recommendations for action on gender equality, economic security, safety and meaningful representation in decision-making. It calls on the Australian Government to listen, engage, and take action to ensure that policies reflect the lived experiences and needs of young people. Why this matters: 1. Young people are directly impacted by policies on gender, education, employment, and safety—yet their voices are often overlooked. 2. This statement ensures that youth perspectives are heard at the global level at CSW69. 3. Change starts with action and this is a step toward greater inclusion and accountability. Drafted by Brianna Delahunty, Asha Clementi, Akrti Tyagi and Tasha Ritchie this statement represents the collective insights, concerns and aspirations of young people committed to driving real change. Now is the time to listen, engage, and act ✨ Read the full statement and join the conversation. Your voice matters! #CSW69 #YouthForChange #GenderEquality #PolicyAction #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs

  • Last month’s webinar on UN CSW and the Zero Draft was an insightful exchange on Australia’s role in gender policy negotiations and how young advocates can engage in global advocacy. We explored the crucial role of civil society in influencing CSW outcomes, the importance of bridging the gap between international negotiations and domestic policy, and the power of youth advocacy in shaping real policy change. However, with ongoing pushback against gender policies, the need for sustained advocacy and collective action has never been greater. Building on this momentum, we hosted a consultative roundtable yesterday as part of the CSW consultation process to hear directly from young people on key human rights priorities. We discussed current issues Australia and the world should prioritise, what words and ideas should be included (or might be missing) in the Zero Draft, what Australia should push for at CSW69, and how institutions like the Australian Government and the UN can be held accountable to young people, along with ways for young voices to be more actively involved. We are truly grateful for everyone who participated and contributed in this process ✨ A huge thank you to Helen Dalley-Fisher, Carole A Shaw, Clare Gibellini for sharing their expertise, and to the MCs Akrti Tyagi, Asha Clementi and Brianna Delahunty for facilitating this important conversation. #CSW #GenderEquality #YouthAdvocacy #WomenInLeadership #ZeroDraft #YouthVoice

Chair, Australian Women's Health Alliance. Advocacy & External Relations Director, MSI Asia Pacific.

“Globally we are seeing and responding to war, violent conflict, political and economic insecurity and the wind back of reproductive rights. Full sexual and reproductive rights are human rights. They’re not negotiable. Australia will continue to work towards ensuring every person everywhere is respected and empowered to make decisions for themselves and to have access to the services they want and need. Achieving #GenderEquality and protecting women’s rights demands consistent and vigilant action. Now is the time to strengthen our determination.... The realisation of gender equality means a just safer, more stable and prosperous world for everyone. We must ensure the world continues to push forward....” Padma Raman PSM, Executive Director, Australian Government Office for Women speaking in Bangkok today at the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The Asia-Pacific #Beijing30 Ministerial Conference gathers officials, civil society, youth groups, academics, the private sector, UN entities, and others from across the region to assess progress, address challenges, develop strategies, build consensus and accelerate action. • Attending Raisina Down Under in Canberra was an incredible experience for us at Girls Run the World (GRTW). It was inspiring to be part of conversations with experts, policymakers, and leaders from across the Indo-Pacific, all focused on addressing the region’s most pressing challenges. The discussions on the green economy, emerging technologies, and how we can navigate complex geopolitical dynamics were both enlightening and motivating. Some of the key highlights included: 1. Insightful talks between Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, Hon. Penny Wong, Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand Winston Peters, about strengthening regional cooperation and tackling complex geopolitical issues in the Indo-Pacific. 2. A fascinating panel on the blue economy, examining how digital and physical infrastructure can drive inclusive growth and sustainable development across the region. 3. Thought-provoking discussions on how AI, quantum technology, and 6G are transforming the future of innovation and economic security in the Indo-Pacific. 4. A timely session on the rules-based international order, especially in light of the recent US presidential election, and its implications for the future of the Indo-Pacific. We’d like to extend our gratitude to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Observer Research Foundation, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Ministry of External Affairs, India for making this event possible. #GirlsRunTheWorld #RaisinaDownUnder #IndoPacific #Geopolitics #GreenEconomy #Innovation #StrategicPolicy #SustainableGrowth #FutureOfTech #GlobalSecurity #RaisinaDialogue #ORF

✨ Girls Run the World Embassy Take-over Program 2024 ✨ Over the past few months I have volunteered with the Girls Run the World team to develop and deliver their flagship program: The Embassy Take-over Program. We invite young women from around Australia to visit an Embassy in Canberra for two or three days. This program offers an invaluable opportunity for young women of all disciplines to learn the behind-the-scenes workings of diplomacy. Throughout September, over 40 participants across Australia came to Canberra to visit their allocated allocated Embassy or Delegation. We partnered with more than 20 Embassies and Delegations, including some longstanding supporters and first-time partnerships. It was inarguably a successful program that continues to grow and cement women's place in diplomacy and international relations. However, this program would not have been possible without the support of many people. Firstly, thank you to the Girls Run the World team for their hard work, dedication and for being a fantastic team to work with and learn from. Congratulations to our participants for seizing this opportunity and making the most of it. It is always inspiring to be with like-minded individuals who are also interested in diplomacy and international affairs. Ultimately, this program relies on the multi-national support to provide our young women a glimpse of diplomacy. It clearly demonstrates a commitment to encourage women to participate and become leaders in whatever field they choose. I'm excited for next year's program and encourage you to watch this space! As the year isn't over yet - the GRTW continue to deliver exciting programs and events until the end of the year. Girls Run the World!
