RESEARCH | In a recent research chapter authored by Emil Jonescu, PhD, Sara Chirichilli, Chris White, Talia Uylaki, and Ian Piggott, we delved into the transformative potential of combining Speculative Design and Service Design to enhance mental health service development. Key takeaways include: 💡 Insights into design elements that enhance mental health and wellbeing through qualitative interviews and co-design workshops. 💡 The fusion of Speculative Design and Service Design as a powerful framework to address complex challenges in mental health services. 💡 A call for interdisciplinary collaboration to foster inclusive, holistic, and empathetic mental health services that transcend geographical boundaries. We hope our findings inspire policymakers, designers, and service providers to rethink and reshape mental health service delivery by integrating cultural sensitivity and community engagement into future projects. The chapter titled “Designing Mental Health-Friendly Spaces: An Empathy-Based Service Design Approach to Optimising the Built Environment for Mental Health” is now featured in the book Service Design, Creativity, and Innovation in Healthcare Read it here: https://lnkd.in/g7tCRBVf #empathy #research #mentalhealth #servicedesign #speculativedesign #here #futurethinking #enablingcommunitiestoflourish

INLCUSIVITY THROUGH DESIGN | The federal government has just released Australia’s first National Autism Strategy, setting out a vision for a safe and inclusive society for all Autistic people. It aims to improve employment opportunities for autistic people by encouraging employers to make their workplaces equitable, not only through their hiring practices, but by providing accessible and sensory-friendly work environments. Conventional design can often present barriers to Autistic people. This is why we have conducted research to better understand how design can support and enable neurodiverse people, particularly in the workplace. This research, called ‘The Working Brain’, informs our interior design ethos. From lighting and acoustics to colour and spatial layout, inclusivity in the built environment creates not just accessible spaces, but places that genuinely support wellbeing and productivity for everyone. We are thrilled to congratulate Hames Sharley Fellow Warren Kerr AM on receiving the prestigious President's Prize from the Australian Institute of Architects [WA] – a well-deserved recognition of the significant contribution he has made to the profession throughout his career. Well done Warren! 👏👏
A privilege to present the 2024 Australian Institute of Architects [WA] President’s Prize to two people advocating for the architecture profession in WA – journalist Claire Tyrrell and architect Warren Kerr AM. Founding Director of the Hames Sharley Health Portolio, Warren Kerr AM has made an enormous contribution to the profession over his long and distinguished career. While journalist Claire Tyrrell has made a significant impact in recent years translating the language of architecture into accessible, engaging content, informing and inspiring her readership at Business News. Architecture plays a significant role in people’s lives, shaping how we live, work and play. From buildings to urban spaces, architecture is all around us and impacts the well-being and quality of life of individuals and the communities at large. However, not everyone realises this. For many people, architecture is a nebulous concept, often reduced to an image. This is where Claire Tyrrell, as an architecture and property journalist, has been playing a crucial role. Claire’s coverage of architects and their projects is extensive - educating and engaging the public on the many benefits of good design and inspiring engagement with the profession. Warren Kerr has been recognised via many awards and honours over his career, including being appointed as a member of the Order of Australia for his services to architecture and his contribution on to the planning and design of major health facilities. But this year being the 20th anniversary of the appointment of the first Government Architect in Western Australia, it is fitting to recognise his successful advocacy that led to the creation of this role and the benefits it has brought to the community since. As a former State and National President of the Australian Institute of Architects, Warren successfully lobbied State and Territory Governments to establish the position of Government Architects 20 years ago. Congratulations Claire Tyrrell and Warren Kerr AM. #architecture #designcommunity Jonathan Speer Viviane Trottier-Picard Claud Mottolini

It always brings us joy to share our beautiful spaces with others, especially in this season of giving and celebration 🥂 As a member of Adelaide EA Influencers Network, our own Carley McBeath invited the group to our Adelaide Studio for their end of year celebrations. Around 50 of Adelaide’s Executive and Administrative Assistants from across a diverse range of industries came together to send off the year feeling merry and bright ✨ Thanks for joining us AEAIN!
This week we hosted our last AEAIN event for the year, 𝐀𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐄𝐀 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭, along with our incredible partners at Your Say Group. It was our way of saying THANK YOU to our amazing members who have supported AEAIN and attended events during the year🎉 This event was a celebration of the vibrant community we’ve built together. The connections, stories, and support for one another in the Admin Profession space has been truly inspiring. We couldn’t be more proud of how far we've come and the exciting future ahead. 🚀 A major highlight of the evening was the 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤 4 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐥𝐞, we had the joy of announcing the lucky winners! Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised over $2,000 for Dementia Australia just from the raffle alone. For those who participated in the walk in November, we’ll send out a wrap-up email soon. 🎁 We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt THANKS to a few key people: 🌟 Carley McBeath for graciously offering the stunning Hames Sharley office as this events venue. The views over Victoria Square and Adelaide were stunning. And Madeleine Steele, Studio Lead at Hames Sharley, for taking the time to speak to our EAs, adding to the success of the evening. 🌟 Lorelei Owens for being our photographer of the night. You perfectly captured the essence of the evening—thank you for your incredible work and all the best with your career! 🌟 To our members, THANK YOU for attending our networking events. Without your support, this network and these events wouldn’t be possible. 🌟 To all the venues that hosted us this year—Griffins Hotel, Hotel Alba, Aurora Skydeck, Vault 91, Hotel Indigo, Franklin Hotel, Adelaide Oval, and Hames Sharley. We truly appreciated your hospitality! 🌟 And a huge THANK YOU to Your Say Group for partnering with us at the start of the year to bring these events to life. Jason Bird, your enthusiasm and understanding of the importance of the EA role has been invaluable. Olivia Bryant, working with you is a breeze—you make everything happen, and we truly appreciate you! 𝐀𝐄𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐢𝐧 2024 & 2025 We had 8 events this year and 3 connection lunches—huge achievement! When Kathryn, Trudy, and I first started AEAIN in March 2023, we had 20 EAs on our list. Today, and we’ve hit 200 members! It’s been so exciting to see new faces at each event, and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more in the future. 🎉 Kathryn and I are taking a well-deserved break after a big year—both personally and professionally. We plan to come together early January to lay the groundwork for 2025. Finally, a big THANK YOU Kathryn Emmett, my co-chair, who couldn't be at the event, but dialled in to announce the raffle winners. We all missed your energy and enthusiasm! Hope you all get a break over the festive season, Mel RotheCox 💫 #AEAIN #AdminProfessionals #SeeYouAtTheNextOne
