Named for the 'father of economics', the Adam Smith Building at the University of Glasgow isn't just a business school; it's a connector. Three different spaces, woven together, designed to spark those 'aha!' moments between disciplines. Scotland's RIAS Awards have placed our design for the project on their 2025 shortlist, recognising outstanding architecture. More than a building, Adam Smith is an exercise in fostering collaboration and igniting fresh perspectives. It's about sparking new ideas and how a building can rewrite the story of a campus. 🔗 Discover more on our education design: https://lnkd.in/gQvfMKQM 📷 Imagery by Hufton+Crow #Architecture #Design #UniversityofGlasgow #AdamSmithBuilding #EducationDesign #CampusLife #InnovativeSpaces Professor Eleanor Shaw OBE

Leading international design practice with studios in Australia, Asia, and the UK. We are a Certified B Corp.
About us
We are a leading international design practice with studios in Asia, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Our purpose is to create a better future by designing the world’s best places – places people love. Our design values are shared globally across all our studios, by the talented people who work in them: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and specialist consultants. We work across a broad range of scales, from the interior design of a boutique retail store through to major public architecture and strategic urban planning for cities. And we work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. Our focus is on people and how we create better, more meaningful experiences for them. We do that through creative, holistic thinking, a deep knowledge base and a rigorous design process. We judge the success of the buildings and places we design by the way people use and enjoy them - the clients who commission them, the people who inhabit them. We are a Certified B Corp. Don't miss Hassell Principal Rosie Morley on ADR's Designing Futures podcast. This episode delves into the courage behind career pivots, featuring Rosie alongside other influential voices in Australian design, such as Ninotschka Titchkosky, former co-CEO of BVN Architecture and Kate Frear, co-founder of The Advisory Studio. Discover how Rosie and her fellow guests found success in taking life-changing 'left turns'.
In episode four of Designing Futures, three Australian architects and designers discuss the life-changing left turns they have taken in their careers. Part one sees our 30UNDER30 host Nicole Tan, a former associate at HDR, ask guests how they found the courage to pivot and whether there is such a thing as an absolute right or wrong decision. Guests include 30UNDER30 mentor Ninotschka Titchkosky, former co-CEO of BVN Architecture who left in 2024 after 23 years at the practice; Rosie Morley, a principal at Hassell and regular guest on design programs on TV; and Kate Frear, co-founder of The Advisory Studio, a consultancy firm that aims to uncloak the architecture and design process for clients who might not be well-versed in the industry. They talk about the fear of change versus the fear of settling, finding delight in diversion, the importance of widening your lens early, and when to block out the noise of other people’s opinions. How can healthcare design keep pace with a rapidly changing world? In the lead-up to the launch of the UK's National Health Service (NHS) 10 Year Plan, Oana Gavriliu, Principal and healthcare architect, discusses five key trends that are converging — digitalisation, community care, preventative medicine, decarbonisation, and adaptability — creating a pivotal moment not just for British healthcare, but as a potential blueprint for systems worldwide. It's a transformational shift, and as Oana highlights, the NHS is uniquely positioned to make it a reality. What do you think will have the biggest impact on the future of healthcare spaces? 🔗 Dive into Oana’s insights on a new era in healthcare: https://lnkd.in/e2PsG4hr 📷 Murdoch Square health precinct in Perth, Australia. Gender equity isn’t just a commitment for us at Hassell—it’s a movement led by the incredible women shaping our industry every day. “Gender equity is more than just a commitment to me, it’s a personal issue and one that I am truly passionate about improving—not only at Hassell but across the broader industry. And that’s why we’ve been intentional in developing a strategic Gender Equity Framework that is continually evaluated and that holds us accountable to our decisions. It is critical for us to continue to introduce and maintain innovative policies to support flexible work, equal access to parental leave, the elimination of bias – and the myriad other levers that we have available to make positive change and achieve our ambitions of an equitable future. “At Hassell, diversity makes us stronger. We’re always pushing to be a more progressive design practice—one that fosters a truly inclusive and supportive environment for our talented team. Our vision is clear, our commitment is real, and we’re here to make a difference.” – Liz Westgarth, Managing Director, Hassell In the spirit of this year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘March Forward: For ALL Women and Girls’, we’re celebrating the significant progress women are making across our industry by spotlighting some of the talented females making their mark at Hassell. 🔗 Read more about some of Hassell’s female talent here: https://lnkd.in/gFxf8_pC #Hassell #InternationalWomensDay #GenderEquity #IWD #WomenInDesign Lucy O'Driscoll Emily Moss Tanya Golitschenko Zoey Chen Natalie Busch Minmin Long Ingrid Bakker

Reaching a significant milestone, the First Building at Bradfield City Centre in Sydney, Australia on Dharug Country was officially opened yesterday by Premier of NSW Chris Minns, alongside Deputy Premier Prue Car, and Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully. Designed by Hassell, with First Nations knowledge from Djinjama, the First Building is adaptable, circular and resilient — designed to meet the evolving needs of Australia's first new city in over a century. Premier Minns paid homage to Australian engineer John Bradfield (whom the new city is named after) drawing synergies between Bradfield’s design ethos and the First Building. “A new city requires a big dream — and today it’s incredibly exciting to see that dream taking shape here in Bradfield. The way this building plays with natural light, the way it sits at home in the landscape, its incredible attention to detail, its craftsmanship — not to mention the innovation and progress that will happen here. In short, it’s a beautiful place — and inside these four walls, serious work will be done,” said Premier Minns. Setting a new benchmark for how cities can grow sustainably, the First Building is an exemplar of regenerative design that embodies a deep respect for the environment and a forward-thinking approach to designing places that respond to the challenges facing our planet today. And at Hassell, this is the future we’re working towards. 🔗 Read more about the First Building here: https://lnkd.in/gXNcdm-g 📷 Photography by Vinchy Wu/ Hassell #Hassell #PlacesPeopleLove #WesternSydney #BradfieldCityCentre #FirstBuilding #AMRF #Innovation #CityShaping #DesignwithCountry #RegenerativeDesign #SustainableFuture #Architecture #Design #LandscapeDesign Bradfield Development Authority Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF)

Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport is a rare opportunity to profoundly impact the culture of the new city of Bradfield using transport infrastructure as the primary economic and social driver. Located within Dharug Country, the six new metro stations, designed by Hassell will be connected by a 23-kilometre corridor of restored Cumberland Plain landscape. One of those stations — located at Luddenham — will support the future employment and research precinct in the area, providing critical access to job opportunities, as well as the neighbouring mixed-use residential development and public green space. The stations are designed to make the transport experience accessible and seamless, encouraging people to move in a way that supports the future wellbeing of the community and the surrounding environment. 🔗 Learn more about Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport here: https://lnkd.in/g9QiDB_s 🖼 Imagery by Doug + Wolf #Hassell #UrbanTransport #Rail #SydneyMetro #PlacesPeopleLove Djinjama Plenary Group Webuild Siemens RATP Dev
