Hunter Joint Organisation is excited to announce that four of its member councils (Maitland City Council, Australia, MidCoast Council, Muswellbrook Shire Council and Upper Hunter Shire Council) have secured a renewable electricity supply agreement with Iberdrola Australia through to the end of 2030. This agreement, part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) involving nine other regional councils across New South Wales, secures the long-term supply of electricity to our councils’ large sites and streetlights. 🔋 Renewable Energy: Maitland City Council, MidCoast Council and Muswellbrook Shire Council have all committed to 100% renewable energy under this PPA, while Upper Hunter Shire Council has opted for 30%. In doing so, our councils will avoid an estimated 99,400 tonnes of CO2-e over the course of the agreement. 💰 Cost Savings: By purchasing as a group, we've locked in a competitive price until 2030, collectively saving our councils an estimated $2M over the course of the agreement (compared to 2024 electricity costs) and protecting them from energy price fluctuations. 🌱Regional Economy: Our energy will be sourced from several renewable energy projects located in NSW, boosting the regional economy and supporting the growth of the renewable energy sector. The Powering Tomorrow: Regional Councils NSW PPA initiative was coordinated by the Hunter Joint Organisation and Mid North Coast Joint Organisation, along with advisors Sourced Energy Pty Ltd, Regional Procurement, Procure Group Pty Ltd, and Baker Mackenzie, with financial support from the NSW Government. To celebrate Iberdrola International Volunteer Week in 2024, Iberdrola Australia staff participated in numerous activities to help make positive impacts in the community! Staff at all our offices donated food and funds through the Foodbank Food Drive and gave blood through Australian Red Cross Lifeblood. Some of our Melbourne team also participated in a beach clean event with BeachPatrol at Port Melbourne beach. The team did an amazing job collecting rubbish and conducting a full audit – over 1300 pieces of rubbish were collected, including 486 nurdles, 171 small hard plastic fragments, 111 microplastics and 104 food wrappers! Some of the team in Sydney also spent a day working with Greater Sydney Landcare to help with bush care activities. They worked hard to remove monoculture plants, clean up rubbish amongst bushes and along waterways, and conducted water quality testing in a nearby creek. Thanks to all those who helped us put our commitment to a healthy planet and communities into action!

Fantastic to see #Gippsland front and centre this week and be part of the buzz at the Gippsland New Energy Conference #GNEC2024 in Traralgon. Industry, Traditional Owners, community and all levels of government collaborated in discussion on the energy transition in the region. #IberdrolaAustralia was proud to be a Platinum Partner, supporting the recent feasibility licence awarded to our #AuroraGreen offshore wind project, located 25+ kilometres off the coast of Gippsland. - Our new head of engineering, Jim Rijks (金萊克), joined others in sharing examples of lessons learnt globally in offshore wind. Jim talked about maximising local jobs and skills content to ensure benefits stayed within the region and long-term jobs are created. - Our GM Network Regulations and Connection Maheshini Weerackoon shared thoughts with panel members on Putting Renewables into the Grid and readiness for more renewable power to enter the energy system. - Executive Manager Engagement & Social Licence, Nicola Pero discussed community benefit models with a peer panel, sharing global examples of Iberdrola offshore wind where communities co-govern transformational benefit outcomes. Congratulations to Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) on the launch of Pathways to Partnership. We were also delighted to support the launch of Federation University Australia Asia Pacific Renewable Training Centre (APRETC) Gippsland, which Iberdrola Australia is proud to be a contributor to. Through best practice regional collaboration we can achieve positive outcomes and it was terrific to join forces with Committee for Gippsland and Gippsland Climate Change Network Inc., and Gippsland offshore wind developers for the launch of Gippsland Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA) by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon. Chris Bowen and Senator for Victoria Dr. Jess Walsh. Ongoing industry support of Lily D’Ambrosio MP and attendance at the event was greatly appreciated, together with Harriet Shing and hear OWEV updates from Anh Mai and from VicGrid by Alistair Parker. That's a wrap for 2024 and we can't wait for #GNEC2025!
